Default Some Headwork questions i have..

Currently I was around 11.4~11.6 CR on my stock block type-r motor

my setup was a 1999 usdm b18c5 bottem end, completely stock.

the head was a 1995 jdm b18c head, with a crower full race valvetrain, and their ti-retainers. Ferrea high compression Flat face valves. Skunk2 stage 2 cams on Buddy club gears. Skunk2 original intake manifold port matched. Minor port job on both intake / exhaust side. major bolt ons etc etc.. grounding kit the whole nine, the car makes great power and with the current setup in a 97 gsr chassis the car went 13.8's..

i'm currently getting the head worked upon today and will recieve it back this thursday i'm getting it milled 0.020.. hot tanked, new valvestem seals and the head in gerenal checked.. according to the zealautowerks thing, my cr should be around 11.8~12.0..what do you guys think and what could i see increased power wise, i'm not tryin to be a ricer i'm just looking for some info i'ma retune it but i've been preping it and making the **** actually look nice, i've always done things myself and i'd do this myself but i dont have time, with me working in the hospital and all now..here's a few pics of my painting and what not..Cleaning up the block and head and bolt ons and ****..

Right after the head was taken off..

After my piston cleaning.

New seats installed

my wife loves my center pieces..

intake manifold after my cleaning and porting.

The block after cleaning the block off, and the old hg that went to **** and i'm doing some wire tuck and what not

I think he was asking what kind of increase in power he can expect with 0.5 increase in compression. A long time ago I once heard on Honda B-series engines about 10hp per one point of compression. This amount is dependent on the tuning done to the engine. So in your case maybe 5hp? Get it on a dyno and let us know.
Hondata or Crome?

crome pro of course, i'm tuning it..the car makes great power..i'm just inquiring my questions were, if i could be expecting a good increase in power and what not with a cr increase.

Compression increase = power increase, in your case 5-7hp
What kind of number did you car make on a dyno? I saw your 1/4 time, seems about right for your set up.

You are doing all of this work, are you having the head professionally ported?

That's what I thought. Good luck with your motor

is that statement making fun of me, or is it wishing me luck as in being real with me and not trying to down me??..I dont understand..But in anywho i appciate the comments my porting was very minor, i port matched the runnings to the head, and the headers to the head, i also didn't go all the way in i just stuck to the outer regions..but its a very good job in my eyes..i'll take some pics when it gets back from the shop of hot tanking..

The motor setup will consist of the following
The block will stay stock for now..
Stock flywheel, stock everything except the clutch, which is a excedy stage 2 which i will be changing out shortly..

The head still has the crower full race valvetrain, with the ti- retainers.. Ferrea high compression SS valves.
s2s2 cams, on bc cam gears.
skunk2 manifold(not proseries) port match
aem v2
sparks race header 2.5 collector 4-1
and a tsudo n1 2.5 catback exhaust..
crome pro tuning and etc etc alittle bit more **** but i'd probably be called a ricer for having a hypertech grounding system and other ****...
..we'll see how i do hopefully i can make around 200-220whp anywhere in that regin and i'll be happy..with the setup..

It is my sincere best wishes, although it is my considered opinion, based on much experience, that you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

disappointment how..i'm tryin to learn but i've been doing this awhile..to be honest, this is the first time actually i've ever let someone else touch my ****, excluding my building partner and myself i've done all the work, i've put the motor together, i've tuned it, and well for the past 4 years this stock block has seen revs to the moon and back and i still have no problems with it..i'm very lucky, i've read many books, i've spoke to many experinced people such as yourself..and i've put together others motors and tuned them as well i've done alot more then most have and i've had the better end of the stick if you would...but thx you for the best wishes hopefully it all tunes out ok.

and you spent alot of money to get that carbon coating on those pistons. would you sand thermal barrier off your pistons after you sent them out to get coated??

what areas of the port did you work?? what is the port volume?? and what valve job angles did you use, seat width and where is it on the valve?? you probably didnt have access to a flowbench i am guessing. if you answer those couple questions we could give more insight.

the problem arises when you slap the IM gasket on there and open the port opening up to match, polish the port and call it a ported head.

todd just didnt want you to get your hopes up in case your headwork is less than ideal

Did i say i was a pro? No, but i wanted to do it myself..Its basically a minor port job, basically a good port match, i'm no pro and i didn't expect my **** to make 300whp---- But i just wanted to get insight on COMPRESSION not my porting..

Perhaps it's just me, but deciphering your disjointed post is giving me a headache.
What insight into your compression? I see lots of pictures of shiny seats and intake manifolds, and a pretty beach towel, but no coherent question.

give him credit...most people talk about things and don't actually do anything. yes...he's asking for a sarcastic answer with the way its posted...but its up to us to look past it and simply see it at face value.

there is alot of pretty pics...but the simple question he is asking is...

what kind of increases in power could a 20thou mil do for his setup if the porting he did didn't actually hurt him. you know...bench racing. The answer is...nobody knows because its minimal and there are too many variables.
