Small Background:
This is my 4th CRX but I've never really had the "H-T" definition of a nice CRX. Never slammed on Rotas with a new paintjob and a Bseries swap. I'm pretty Dseries-devoted, and I've never really gotten into body work or paintjobs. I'm starting to get tired of the ED generation, and I'm factoring whats worth it to keep the CRX around or just sell it for cheap and drive something newer. I'm starting to get tired of the squeaks, and the nonsense that comes along with driving a CRX. It's also a factor in picking up the MILFs.

Just about twice a week, I get offers off the street to buy my CRX. It's always tempting but I feel like it would be another lost CRX unless I really put some time/money into it.
It's a 1991 Honda CRX Si. 250k+- on chassis.
-Stock Suspension
-100% Si Interior with 89 Si seats.
-Stock like-new exhaust with noname header
-D16a6 with app. 155-160k
-90 Si trans
To anyone off the street, it appears as a stock CRX Si. It basically is, but I feel like its alot more since I put it together from the ground up.
Known Problems:
-Needs new tranny. Just installed one but it pops out of 3rd, 4th and 5th gears when I let off the gas.
-Motor burns oil, and has the standard d16a6 head gasket oil leak. Also, I believe the rear main seal, oil pan gasket, and valve cover gasket needs replacing.
-Needs alignment.
-Minor dings/scratches.
-Small Surface rust on rear 1/4s that were previously rolled for wider wheels.
Thats it.
The question is. Do I empty the bank on this CRX, knowing that I'm not gonna get it all back in time? Or do i quickly sell it for what its worth (1,000-1,500) and start with something else. The car has GREAT potential and I think would be really nice. I'm just 50-50 on sellin it for cheap or redoing everything.
If I were to keep it I would:
Drop in a new Dseries swap, or clean up d16a6 and get new tranny.
Body work and paint job
Paint my panasports and get new tires
Buy new struts/springs
Possibly new "race" seat.
I know the car up and down and can do just about everything. Only problem is I dont have another car to drive so it's a pain in the ***.
So what does H-T think?

Well I'm really good at saving $ on these, but every once in a while you gotta buy a swap or paintjob etc.
I've never paid more then 200 for an engine swap so it's not a whole lot. I'm just envious of those who can afford to order a large sum of OEM parts straight from Honda like its Christmas time. If I do what I want to do, its gonna cost somewhere in the 1200-1500$ range. Add on my asking price of 1500 and it would be worth around 3000 on the East Coast: Land of the Extinct CRX.

Screw HT definition of clean. That is a very nice car. I would keep that. What a great example of a CRX.
I voted Restore.
The East Coast has a lot more CRX's than what people think but I guess at the rate I buy them I may be the sole owner of them on the East coast.

i totally agree. Don't turn this thing into a super clean hard-parker if thats not whats in your heart. Fix her back up to like new and enjoy it for what it is. an economical, fun to drive two seater.
imo if you put a bunch of cash into a car it can screw up the pleasures of driving it, b/c you're too worried about messing it up

dude, that is a hella clean car to start with. i would definitely keep it. you can always buy another car as a daily driver and then keep the crx as a work in progress restoration. you will regret selling it if you do. for the noises that are from the panels, get rubber washers or tape on pieces of weatherstripping to dampen the vibrations and rattling. you dont have to go all out either when restoring it. so that will save you a lot of money. i plan to stay d series with my car also. you can also look into getting new bushings (urethane or oem) and shocks and stuts.
new used tranny, engine ~ 400-600
alignment ~ 50-100(lifetime 4 wheel alignment)
products to remove
surface rust, duplicolor ~ 50
etc

Thanks for the replies guys. I see keeping it is in favor haha. It was my brother's first CRX and he sold it to me for 500$ as a gutted shell. How you see it now is what I've done to it. It took time to get it stock haha but not a whole lot of $$. I guess I should keep it in the family. I'm always keeping my eyes peeled for a beater to get around in and I can park this CRX as a project. I know I'd get alot more done like that.
I'm considering a nice sohc or dohc zc swap with tranny. I love the d16a6 but its burning oil and I dont have $$ for a rebuild. Other then that, just body work, paint, suspension, and new tires for my panas and I think it'll be gravy.
If I decide to go for this, I'll post up a sweet project thread to show you some of my goals.

if u were too see the p.o.s that im restoring at the moment you would not think twice about it. but there comes a time when a man needs to let his baby go ( hogan knows best ) haha .. but it would not take to much money to restore it ..i say keep it , can we get more pics of the rear, interior, rust on the car...
I would venture to guess that you will be sad if you sell iut & end up getting another one. I voted that you keep it & restore it due to this. At least you know the history of this one.

As soon as I get a chance I'll put up some interior/engine bay pics, as well as the problem areas to let you guys know what I'm up against.
Unmolested? Maybe haha.
This thing has had a dohc zc swap, then dohc turbo zc, then z6 head/a6 block swap, its had a wire tuck, dx motor, then another dx motor, now an si motor. Half of that was my brother of course
Fortunately, there hasn't been any body kits or interior nonsense
When I just did my last tranny swap, my brother discovered that the front crossmember was litterally twisted in half
I'll shall show you guys some pictures of that in the project thread. He cut a huge notch out of it for his turbo and it all rusted to hell. I'm pretty sure I coulda died had I driven it anymore.

And this is it like 3-4 years ago with my old white 90 and old 88 red one on the street.

LOL, why don't you sell it then and buy another or something? I'm looking at the very one I learned to drive stick in for 1500 or so, I don't know If I'm going to be able to lock it down or not.
Do what everyone else does. Sell it, buy an eg, get sick of eg, wish you had your crx back, sell eg, and buy crx in worse condition than the one you have for more money than you sold yours for.
