Default Installing a Pioneer AVIC-N2 DVD/Navi ... Need Help

Im in the process of installing a pioneer avic-n2 in my car and im having some trouble. What i want to know is, theres a yellow wire (battery wire) that the installation manual says it is to be connected to a power source that gets power regardless of ignition position. Where can i tap this wire to? I did the install last night and the unit isn't powering up. Please help. Thanks

MM&Y of car?

I assume it's a Honda/Acura so the stock radio harness has a 12V+ constant in it, [white/blue on most] it is protected by a 7.5A fuse in the under hood fuse box, [on most Honda/Acuras] however 7.5A may not be enough current for your Pioneers main power, [yellow] so run a fused 12 - 10 gauge lead from the batt. to the HUs yellow constant power.
Don't forget the cap off the stock radio harness white/blue constant. 94

Its actaully a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder (i know this is h-t, but theres more useful info here than the nissan forums). Im not sure if my stock radio has a blue/white constant that would need capping off.

It does have a 12V+ constant, it's probably not white/blue, it is probably blue/yellow or red/green, just cap off any wires it the stock radio harness you are not using, or better yet use a harness adapter... http://www.scosche.com/scosche...NN03B and just depin, [jerk out] from adapter plug wires you are not using, [the yellow one is the constant. 94

I'm using a harness for my car, i used butt connectors to connect all the necessary wires (front left speaker wire from HUs harness to front left speaker wire from nissan harness i bought, etc. etc.) Also, theres an Orange/white wire that goes to the lighting switch terminal, am i suppose to connect that to the "Illumination" wire or "Negative Dimmer" wire, they are both orange wires.

First I don't think your ground is hooked up. Some nissans don't have ground in there harness. Do not try to pull ground from the antenna

I do believe the harness i have does have a ground wire, but i would have to double check. What do you mean by pulling ground from the atenna? My car does not have power antenna if it's of any relevance. Thanks for all the help

My amp (was running a stock HU with an amp/sub, now upgrading HU) has a fused lead from the battery, can i tap into that or should i run another fused lead from the battery?

As far as grounding goes, do i necessarily have to ground it to the chasis of my car? I read that a ground wire should not be more than 18 inches long, and it doesnt seem theres anywhere within 18 inches reach that'll be a good source to ground.

absolutley! the harness you have has the ground in it, although the harness i sell at my shop does not, i would agree that you should ground the the chassis, on nissans i usually ground to the ISO mount of the car, (where the radio brackets bolt to the cars chassis) you may also want to grab a DMM and check the ground to make sure its good as well as testing your constant and switched source on both sides of harness and both sides of butt connectors, poss. a bad connection. good luck.

I just got finished and everything is up and running So i'm guessing the connections i made were good. Whats an ISO mount? I grounded to a metal bracket that the plastic interor trim bolts up to. Is that ground okay?

no nissans have grounds in the harness. u have to make ur ground. i've seen aftermarket harnesses that connect to ur factory harness that had a ground in the harness but if u look at the car side of the harness... there's no ground connected to it.

If a HU is not grounded properly would it still turn on? What can happen if it weren't grounded properly?

if your useing a vehicle specific harness it should color match wire for wire. All you need to do is tag the Vss (Vehicle speed sensor) and parking brake unless you are doing a override.

Yes, I'm using a vehicle specified harness, and thats exactly what i did, color matched the wires.
