Default What kind of damage can a broken Sperpentine belt do? 5th gen

My serpentine belt on my 5th gen shredded today. I am a bit irritated as it is only about 10k miles on a fresh belt. I was actually on my way to the shop to have that checked out as it has been making noise for a bit now when it gave, taking out another belt with it. My power steering was out, alternator belt was gone, check engine, atts, and brake light on....much fun.

Is this likely to have caused serious damage?

The 5Gen does not have a serpentine belt. The alt/AC belt is separate from the PS belt. If you didn't damage timing belt, then you probably didn't damage the engine.

you didnt damage anything important

you did however probably drain your battery, and your steering was probably hard as **** to steer.

they're still called serpentine belts, fyi

I wouldnt worry about it. i'd recharge your battery and replace those belts asap with the gatorback poly v.

Well, the alt/AC belt is technically a serpentine belt, I suppose. The PS is not.

"accessory" belt. and depending on what happened, it could have caused some serious damage. your timing belt could be broken as well and unless youve taken the valve cover off, you wouldnt be able to tell.
