Hi guys

i have 96 EK with a 99-00 front end conversion. I was told that it was a GS-R turbo before it was stolen. Then the previous owner put in a DX motor (d16y7) with a Y8 IM.

The other day, I was driving around and my lights kept flickering, and finally my battery died and I was told that it was my alternator. So I changed that out, and the lights stopped flickering, but for some reason, my battery can't charge. So I went and bought a new battery which lasted me for about half a day before it too died out.

Whenever I turn my lights on or my heat to warm up the car in the morning (it's cold here in Iowa), the RPM's on the gauge cluster drop to zero and not to long after, the car will start stalling like it's choking and it will die out. Then the only way to get it started back up is to jump it.

Any suggestions on what it could be or a link? I was told it could be the ignition coil, but the person who told me wasn't all that sure.

did you bother to check the battery as well? also check the alternator wires, i once had one ground out and it gave me the same symptoms.

also, try changing your ground wires as well.

 

i will try checking the grounds later tonight. you're probably right.

if I swap a new motor into the hatch, will it fix the problems?

motors has nothing to do with your problem. try to figure out the power loss and then worry about swapping motors.

 

Sounds like a charging problem. Check all your main charging and ground wires. Clean the tab on the wire that faces the alternator. Also clean up the terminals on the battery. Is the plug on the back plugged in?

 

i believe so. it's so damn cold i don't even want to LOOK at my car, much less work on it.
