HONDA CUP - First Committee Meeting for 2007
The first Honda Cup General meeting for 2007 held at:
Special Projects Motor Sports
824 W. Southern Ave. Orange. CA 92865
Thursday January 11th. at 7.30 pm.
Thanks to all who attended.
Congratulations to Derek Stevens – The 2006 Honda Cup champion.
Election of Committee and General business:
Chairman: Jeff Owen. Jeff will also be the HC representative to the Cal Club Competition Committee.
The Committee: Derek Stevens, Tom Lepper, Don Wilson, Joe McCarthy, Alex Card, and Brian Slames.
Rules & Regulations:
A motion to restrict the Honda Cup class to only Front Wheel Drive was withdrawn, as most of the current S2000 competitors either have sold their cars, or intend to run in other classes such as ITE. The S2000 Competitors made up at least half of the HC field last season. Several existing members with Front wheel drive cars are intending to compete next season, which will boost the field once again.
A motion to restrict the class to 2.0 Liters was also withdrawn because of the increasing trend by competitors in other series towards the K-24 Hybrid engine transplants. The committee will make a concerted effort to find what Honda Competitors require. We do not wish to steal members away from other organizations. However, we need to attract more Front wheel drive cars to Honda Cup and offer those people in other organizations an alternative if they are looking for some real competition in 2007.
The committee decided to leave all the current rules and regulations in place for 2007.
Cal Club have provided for the Honda Cup Class at all of their regional events for 2007 for those who want to compete at as many events as possible throughout the year.
In order to keep the cost of competing in the championship at a reasonable level, we have reduced the series to Six Rounds - 12 Races for 2007. We have provided a Championship round at PIR. Thanks to the Arizona region for adopting the Honda Cup Rules. We would like to support HC growth in that region.
As we have found in previous years, the following Schedule is subject to change. We will try to give as much notice as possible to all competitors if there is a change in the 2007 schedule.
The Official Championship Sponsored by: Don Wilson & Special Projects Motor Sports
Schedule:
January 26-27-28 California Speedway
March 31-April 1 PIR Arizona (Honda Cup adopted)
May 19-20 Button willow
August 31-Sept 1 (SFR) Infinion
September 28-29 (SFR) Laguna Seca
Final : TBA Willow Springs ? We are waiting for confirmation from TCRA re: their Nov/Dec event.
There are Three out of region events in the official Honda Cup Championship. At the two events in (SFR) Honda Cup Cars will be running with the ITE class -
Any other Honda’s running in ITE are welcome, and will be eligible for points and Trophy’s in the Honda Cup Championship. Only if they comply with the official 2007 Honda Cup regulations.
Good Luck to everyone for 2007

Hi Chad,
Are you coming????
I believe there is always a sound limit at Laguna? But I don't think any of our cars had a problem there last year?
I will try and find out what the limit is...

Who's racing at the upcoming Fontana event? I'm planning on watching Saturday. I'll try to make the morning qualifying, but I'll definitely be there in time for the afternoon race.
Let me know your car and # so I know which ones to concentrate on photographing.
