brakes
hello all. I just bought a 97 honda accord (non abs) that has very soft brakes. Pumped them up and still went to the floor. No visible leaks anywhere in the system and breaking was even so I figured bad master cylinder. I replaced it with an aftermarket mc (not a rebuild) and the brakes are still soft although the pedal doesn't go to the floor any more but there is still losts of travel. I checked all the breaks again when I bled the system and everything looks good. Someone I talked to told me this is normal for some honda's. I had a civic and a prelude before this car and those breaks never felt like this. I bled the system twice just to be sure there wasn't any air left in the system and of course I did bench bleed the new mc. Also matched up the new and old mc pushrods. Any Ideas?? thanks
Honda has a "special" tool for setting the brake pedal push rod adjustment.
This problem is common if the replacemaent MC wasn't an 'Adler' brand.
Try going under the dash and make the rod adjustment a little longer. Only go about 1/2 turn of the nut at a time between test drives or you could wind up with the brakes dragging all the time.
