Default Highway Road Noise?

So my cousin and her husband were dead-set on considering a Fit. Went to test drive one, and immediately was turned away because she says is was too noisy on the freeway. My immediate response to her was that "duh, it's an economy car, what do you expect, lexus-like quietness??" So my question to you guys as actual owners is that, is freeway noise really that noticeable on this car to have turned them away so quickly? because had it been me, I would've looked around and test drove another one for a second opinion. What were your honest initial impressions before you guys bought one? (regarding road noise that is)

I didn't think it was bad at all, and after owning a Fit for approximately nine months, I still don't. I think it probably depends on previous experiences. I owned a WRX with stiffer than stock suspension and sticky summer tires (at least in the summer). Compared with that car, the Fit is very quiet.

I think it doesnt have any insulation but that's a good thing weight wise. I have 17s now and you can definitely hear much more road noise but it's tolerable. As you stated it's an econo car not a lexus. I plan on installing some foam in the front area and the doors which should help it a lot. I have damping material too but i'm not sure I want to add more weight.

Haha thnx everyone for your experiences. My conclusion then is that she's just too picky. She drives a '96 Corolla now, with a three speed tranny, and not in the best of conditions. You can only imagine how loud THAT thing is on the freeway. I don't know then why she's complaining??

i noticed a big difference from my tc, but its bearable. I mean i guess if you had luxury cars all your life i'm sure they would get so annoyed by it. Its actually not too bad though, you just get used to it after a while

I think its all in what youre used to. Getting out of my ITR, the Fit is like a caddy on the hwy.

I think the roadnoise is typical for its segment.
