Highbeams=vtec
Wussup HT
I have a lil prob. My GSR hatch, the vtec is wired to the highbeams. Dont ask why, I didnt do it, guy had it for racing purposes. All the pinouts on the ECU are fine and everything that needs to be wired for Vtec in the ECU is fine. (P72 OBD1)
Guy had a relay that i found plugged into the plug that you see in the pic. Thats was the only thing i found odd. So i took the relay out and plugged it back into where you see it. I start up the car, hit the highbeams and nothing happens. Problem is i cant test it cuz my car isnt registered yet. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Shouldn't matter if he had it for racing purposes
. The computer decides better when to engage VTEC than a person ever could just by "hearing the engine" - it's not exactly an oxidizer.
In any event, I would cut the ground or power wire to the solenoid until you can find out the wiring error. Otherwise you're putting unnecessary stress on the engine - especially when you're in a low RPM and in VTEC (since it's made to make the motor run more efficiently in higher RPM).
So you're just hurting your engine right now - so cut the solenoid wire so you could use your lights at night
.
As far as the wiring goes...
What I would do is just remove the wires from the solenoid all together, all the way to the ECU - just take everything out. Then re-wire the solenoid right to the ECU - as if you were doing a mini-me or LS/V swap. That's probably your best bet.

imma take it to a buddy of mine who knows how to wire vtec and does swaps. Hopefully he knows what to do with it when he see's it. I just wont engage vtec until i get it fixed.

Sounds good.
Just so you know. You said the guy who had it b4 you was a racer - that's why it was wired up that way.
Just FYI - That's not a racer, that's a ricer*
. Biiiiiig difference.

hahaha. I still can't think of ANY logical reason why someone would do that.

lol...i know. Ill survive with the way it is. It pisses me off more that the car isnt on the road! thanks for the help. It is kinda fun having vtec though at the touch of a finger.

I cant wait to get it on the road...new project. I hope the wiring problem is sooooo simple. i prolly fixed it myself, but i cant drive the car and tell

The wiring is VERY simple if you just wire up VTEC like you would for a mini-me swap - two wires.
Digging the engine though - looks nice.

OF COURSE. It's to let the oncoming car know that you're hitting VTEC, just in case the tires break loose and you swerve a bit

Old engine pic.. Doesnt do it anymore

ya, all the pins in the ECU are perfectly fine and hooked up. I checked them all today. So it has to be something in the engine. The guy had a wire in that plug in the pic i just put up.

the plug was disconnected and it had a wire going from the green wire to the black wire inside the connector. When i removed the wire and connected it back to the block, i hit the highbeams and vtec doesnt engage with the headlights. sooooooooooo Iam hoping i might have done something right. its the only thing that looks odd out of the entire setup.

Damn..it looks like someone kicked the **** out of the passenger side fender and door. Motor looks beautiful though and its gotta be a blast to drive! Enjoy it man, and good luck getting your wiring straight.
hey when he had that wired connected from the black to the green wire in that connect he was making the cooling fan stay on... if he had something rigged up for vtec to engage... you may want to look for any wires around the vtec solenoid itself...

haha yea thats your fan switch buddy has nothing to do with vtec.

Iam just gonna prolly rewire vtec with the 2 wires. hopefully it works well. I cant even tell if i have vtec anyway cuz car isnt legal to drive yet.
