wth is up with my 240...Please help
ok i just got a 91 240sx hatch and did a redtop SR swap..at first the car was a auto and they said it's gonna be manual when they swap the sr in..when i test drove it with the SR everything seemed fine but a few weaks later i was in a rush and didnt depress the clutch while starting the car but it still turned on..........and everytime i go from 1st to 2nd i can feel grinding on the stick like when you miss a shift, 2nd to 3rd also but not as bad. also when i let off the gas th RPM needle drops from 3k rpm to 1.2k and stays there for like 4-5 seconds then goes down to 750 where iset my idle at. What the hell??
If this is any use: i have a 3" downpipe and a new clutch.
Please help me out..Thanks

wow, are you serious? i would have atleast posted this in General, anyways that aside, im no 240 expert but it sounds like your tranny has some wear and tear that would be why your gears are grinding, check fluid levels just incase, tranny problems i would say are not uncommon given the age. now as far as the revs dropping, you say it happens when you let off the gas, are you staying in gear or going into neutral?
going to neutral
and if it is wear on the tranny does that mean i gotta buy a new tranny then?
when i test drove it after they were done with swap it was fine no grinding, and their suppose to test drive it also im not sure if the problem started after i brought the car home, the drive back is about an hour 10min..

i would not worry about the idel thing, as far as the tranny goes im no tranny expert, and im not familiar with the sr tranny. if its not a bad grind i would not worry about it, my b16b tranny grinds from 2nd to 3rd. anyhow do you mind if i ask why you posted this on HONDA-tech? im sure you would have better luck in a nissan forum. this is the tech/misc forum bit that means misc honda stuff.
oh sorry i am posting this everyhwere HT, nico and such.. oh and do yu have any idea why i can start my car without depressing clutch?
Also if im shifting normally 1st straight to 2nd the grind is really terrible like when i missed 3rd in my old 00 si at redline..

most older cars can start without the clutch being pressed in, it was a saftey feature that was added later because people where starting there cars in first and it would hit there garage doors. i would not worry about that either, if your car is grinding that bad, you should deafinately seek the advice of an expert.
ok im gonna see if my cousin can take a look at it, hes a mechanic but hes super lazy...he takes a day off from work everyweek lol..ok thanks for the help man.

My buddy did the same swap into a auto 240. You can crank the car in any gear, or start in neutral with no clutch depressed. He told me why, but I forget the reason...if i had to guess I would say something in the auto wiring harness during conversion without a neutral safety switch.
Also, not sure about your tranny issues, but I can tell you on a bone stock sr20det engine at 12psi on the stock turbo he is on his 2nd trans in under a year. The first one growled to all hell, and would grind during shifting even easy from 2-3 and 3-4
