Hey guys i have a 1995 Honda Civic DX, After i had K&N Intake, and SKUNK Catback exhaust i was getting 32-35MPG.. I just changed my tires to 17's Enkei which weight 22LBS each along with Falken 205/40/17 which are below 20 also.. i know the car is a bit heavier but is 23-25MPG practical ? I might as well go back to my 2006 V8 Mustang with that type of Gas Mileage... lol

 

how did you test your gas milage?

this the best way to test it..

fill your tank up.. reset your milage... drive a few days...
go to get gas.. fill it up agian.. write down how many gals you put in..
then look at you mileage..
lets say you took
3.586 gal
and drove
80.3 miles

80.3/3.586 = 22.4 MPG

fill to the max each time

 

i also have the same problem with you! (95 lx sedan) but mines hit 20mpg after an oil change. it started at 24 and went down to 20. i myself do not red line it every single stop sign but i know what your going through. im wasting my money and dont have the time to figure it out either ;[

 

17's on a ej1 is definatly going to change your mpg.

 

I'm having the same problem on my EJ1.

Except I didn't make any damn changes.

I used to get 36mpg on my trip from my house to Rochester, last 2 trips I got 30 even - I can't figure it out.

Still got a 43 (fuel supply system) light that comes on every completely random time . Changed the fuel filter. I hope my fuel pump isn't dying...but that wouldn't explain the shitty MPG.

Oh well, not meaning to thread jack, hope you get it fixed.

 

It seems alot of people are noticing a drop in mpg all over the U.S., maybe it's the gasoline. To the org. poster, that's a big drop in mpg I believe it's more than just the larger wheels. If you can return to the wheel size you had b4 to see if the larger wheels are causing the drop, if you're not able to do that give your car a tune up (<major) and see if that changes things, then work your way from there.

 

maybe its the 15% of that corn gas all over the gas station

 

Ya i was getting about 30 to 32 and thats after adding SKUNK Catback exhaust and K&N Short Air Intake including the OEM Wheels which i believe were 13's.. after i added the RIMS which i made sure i got the lightest Tires i can find and Rims i dropped to 25.. I know i can get about 25-27 I always fill up and drive till empty and ill end up right at 250+ miles.. I know it needs a tune up especially new sparks but deciding if i should or should i wait till i do the swap which im looking into doing. Im kinda used to the MPG since i own a 2006 Mustang GT but i have the civic as a daily driver so kinda defeats the purpose of trying to save gas ..lol

It sounds like you're basing your MPG by looking at your gas gauge.

Which is horrible.

Correct way:
1) Fill it up, reset trip meter.
2) Drive for...whenever...down to 1/4...down to empty...whatever.
3) Fill up all the way and divide the total miles driven by the number of gallons of gas you put in your car.

 

The intake might be at fault as well, those wet filters are know to clog your sensors. That could have messed something up

 

If you switch to sticky tires, it will make your mileage drop. The tires on the Prius are of a hard rubber low-rolling-resistance design, which handle like crap, but they get higher mileage because of the tire.

If you switch to heavier wheels, it will make your mileage drop.


My mileage drops every summer when I switch off my winter tires. Nothing too major, 33mpg to around 30, but I'm also switching from OEM 14" steel wheels to OEM 14" alloys, so the lighter wheels counteract the sticky tires a bit.

 

and i thought iwa sthe only one. i use to get 36-38 mpg(calculated by the genious who figured how to calculate mpg). and then i got header. dropped to 30-32 mpg. then i got exhaust last week(still on steelies), and now i'm at 160 on full tank and have 1/5 tank left, WTF is what i say.

 

i also have an EJ and it seems like ive been gettin very bad gas milage as well.

 

Pshhh, im getting 18 mpg and about 200 a tank if im lucky

I have a stock 97 ej8 that I rev the pis out of, and I manage to get around 25-30mpg, depending on how hard I drive it.

 

Ya i was trying to avoid getting heavier tires and rims which so i didnt look at that but i got Enkei OR52 (anthracite) and got a great deal on Falken Ziex Ze 512 which ive been told get great MPG.. and one of the lightest tires out of the choices i had

 

Check your valves, spark plugs, rotor cap, tire pressure, pcv valve.

Adjust accordingly and you should be fine.

 

i drive a h22 eg and get 32mpg city/highway mixed. try switching back to your old wheels and see what happened =p

 

It's probably just the oxygenated gas they give us in the winter time. 22 lbs. wheels are going to help either. Rotating weight is = to something like 4 times static weight. 22 x 4 wheels = 88 x 4 = 352 lbs. That's like carrying two decent sized dudes around in you back seat and I guarantee you that will affect your milage and your performance.

 

are you tending to like the sound to much and going full throttle a lot

id wait, you never know you could use that extra 100 or so on new wires and plugs on the swap, good luck with it.

 

not to be a thread-jacker but my MPG has dropped also. I have a B16A in a 95 CX. I keep a spreadsheet in my cell phone and update it every time i fill up. And I've always used 93 octane gas. Always have averaged 34-35mpg, but starting very end of December until today when i filled up, I'm getting an avg of about 29.9. No tank has yielded even 32 this month. What gives? I have a AEM CAI that's on the ground almost, could the cold weather be a cause? I just changed fuel filter and cleaned my filter this week and no change. Also ran a tank of 91 to see if I was just not igniting the gas very well and my mpg went down to 26 for that tank, back to 30 with 93 though... any ideas?

 

Ive been using Reg. Unleaded and getting 26 on last fillup.. I should try 93 and see how that will help.. I have a K&N Short Air Intake.. dunno if its the cold weather but the car runs better in the cold then it does in the summer but i dont think it will make your car run harder then it did in the summer but then again i could be wrong

 

lets not forget it is colder and if your letting your car warm up before you drive you are gonna notice a decrease in mpg. i wonder too though if cold air makes the car run richer cause i smell more fuel in the exhaust the colder it gets
