Default HP limit on early CRV 5-speeds.

Like title says. Does anyone know what kind of HP the CRV manual trannys will hold before scrambling. Thinking of boosting the car I have the tranny in and cant really find any info. I have heard rumor that they are relaible up to 250hp. Can anyone verify this or point me in the right direction in finding out? TIA!

Well, thats gonna be based on how much hp/tq the tranny will hold. I wont spend a bunch of cash building a motor if the tranny wont take it. If its going to be a fragile tranny, Ill just leave the NA setup in it.

I guess I need to take the rear diff and axles into consideration too, but those items are cheaper to replace. Right now its just a GSR w/cams, but in the future I want it to be fast. Ive put together boosted cars with good results, but I wanted to do a little research on this tranny before I started really thrashing on it. I plan on autoxing the car and of course the daily beatdown as well.

I just dont know anything about the durability of the awd stuff. Everything I have heard has been "well I heard from so & so". So just trying to find out from some people that have some first hand experience.

Also looking for an LSD for the rear diff. I have heard good things about the Phantom grip bolt in deal, but I cant get the company to email me back anything at all. I would be suprised if there was anyting like that available, so Im not holding my breath.

Any info would be appreciated.

I wouldn't throw anything over 250HP at it probably.
And the rear end isn't an issue unless you spin the tires a lot.

Well I hear wheels breaking loose, but I couldnt tell you which ones are breaking traction, but like I say, I havent really got on it yet except in the snow flippin doughnuts in parking lots.

I tried a few low rpm launches after the clutch got broke in, but I was scared to really get on it. Have any of you crv owners with the manual spent much time doing launces or any all around beating down the vehicle? I built this car to have some fun with, so if I scatter the awd stuff, I guess Ill just replace as I go and if possible, replace with a little more heavy duty parts.

well then what I would do is go to a junkyard and yank a transmission for your cr-v and have it rebuilt then install it. So then if you overpower it you can have a spare

well when they do break loose it's probably just for an instant.

How did the gsr swap go? How did you wire up vtec?

Its not in a CRV. Its in an oldschool 89 Civic AWD wagon. I had Rywire do me up an OBD1 wiring harness conversion, so it was allready wired for vtec. Just had to plug **** in.

But, ya, the tires just break for a second, then grip. I have a line on a spare, but the rebuilders around here just build to factory specs. If Im going to pay someone to rebuild, I want it bullitproofed.

Also, if Im spending the cash, Id love to see if I can have the power divided differently. Kinda like the STi's and Evo's. I know theres a lot more technology in those cars. I would never expect to be able to push a button and have it move around like those cars (allthough it would be badass), but if its an option, Id go that route. I seriously dont understand what "realtime" means. Having never tore one of these trannys apart, I really dont know whats going on inside of these trannys.

Seems to me looking at where the rear output shaft goes out the back of the tranny that it would be a 50/50 all the time. I really dont understand how it knows that wheels are spinning somewhere in the drivetrain, especially with no eletronics anywhere in the system.

if you go to the honda website you can learn how the awd system works. It's the same as it's always been (except vtm-4)
