Default Wear Caps??

Was looking at the .pdf about Manley Performance Products, and saw "Wear Caps"... They look like they go on top of the valve stem, presumably to prevent wear or "mushrooming", but can anyone confirm this? Just wondering.

its says on the list of "highlights" a must for titanium valves.

........there is a reason for that.....titanium and steel don't work well togeather.....as the rocker arm pushes down on the valve it will wear the tip of the valve....or the ti-valve tip will wear into the rocker arm. i guess those caps are to prevent that.

do a search you will also find alot of guys replacing titanium valve spring retainers because they "wear" out form the movement of the steel valve spring.

These are also known as "lash caps". This is necessary for valves that do not have hardened tips such as Ti valves or custom cut to length valve blanks that do not have a hardened tip.

All OE and most aftermarket valves for have a hardened stellite tip (hard Nickel based alloy) or a hardened wafer at the valve tip (as used in Supertech Valves). This avoids the need for protective lash caps.

In Nascar the Ti valves are outfitted hardened "thumb tacks" on the valve tip instead of a "cap".
