I have a 2000 hx, 5 speed. Lately when I've been driving I hear this sort of rattling in first gear between 2k-3k rpms.

I've driven with the stock intake and a SRI and hear the rattling with both. The best way I can describe it is it sounds like the way the Predator sounds when he breathes I know that sound strange. I'll try to post up a sound recording later.

 

did you check all the heat shields they are notorious for rattling ..but it could be many things something you and a friend will have to diagnose together...will it do it if you load the car up?

i have a 97 hx 5 speed it make a funny noise at 2 to 3k but i was my tranny..the bearing where busted..

 

does it sound like loose plate rattleing or like a winding noise. and does it go away when you press in on the clutch?

 

time to change the clutch...throwout bearings goin out.....
