Default Header and exhaust flow question.

K I have a 5th gen I was going to turbo but life happens and thats not going to happen so I'm sticking N/A and I'm shooting for a goal of 225whp -250whp but my goal with this engine is to make it as efficient as possible.

that being said I would like to keep the bottom end stock, for my goal I realize I'm not going to get there form bolt ons alone. I'll be getting a spare head and building that up and then bolting on by I digress heres the question at hand.

my next mods is going to be a header atm I'm looking at the 3 big brands RMF, SMSP, and hytech(other GOOD suggestions welcome)

Now RMF and SMSP I know are custom made and I can stand the wait for a quaility part but they don't seem to make an exhaust for the lude as well, hytech does.

would there be ANY advantage to getting a header and exhaust made to match each other or is exhaust flow not as important as say porting and polishing intake flow?

I have a greddy evo2 exhaust that I got for a really good price but once I get the header in I want to get a nice 2.5 mandrel bend system with a hi flow cat(yay california) and probably a N1 canister for the flow properties.

the greddy as you all probably know is a 2.25 so I see no point in having this nice 2.5 inch collector if my exhaust is only 2.25 inch

all this will be tuned with a P28 hondata S300.

would there be an advantage to getting a hyltech exhaust and header combo as opposite to a SMSP,RMF header with a custom mandrel bent system made?

if so will be noticable? is it something that you can tune for to net gains? when I get start getting into the head work of the car would I need to account for that flow when it comes to the port and polishing and the valve job?

Also would adding an exhaust cut out help or hurt performance if the car is tuned with a full exhuast system and muffler?

Thanks for your time everyone.

Your best option is to buy a "package deal" from a good engine shop....pocketrockets is a good one, he can make you a great h22

If you want to build this thing yourself, I suggest you take a good look around and figure out what has already been working for people

see thats the thing I know a few good exhaust shops in my area... but I'm not really sure if they are qualified for making a header. As for a machine shop I have only really found one, but he moved to Arizona(I'm in southern california) and The way things are Not sure I can have my car out there that long as it's my DD. But if needed I could get another car.

But from what I have found, SMSP seems to be the choice best for me because it's a good street header that makes power all over the range, which I'm looking for because this car is going to be mainly on the street. RMF seems to have the better "race" Header for the H22 but The engine is peeky enough as it is right now for the street, ut I believe thats mainly from the crappy stock tuning and how rich the engine runs stock.

Where is pocketrockets located? if they are near me I will currently check them out.

But by suggesting a package deal are you suggesting that the flow of exhaust is important? I've never really heard of anyone porting their exhaust before but then again it's such a bigger space I'm not sure that it would really do anything. But I mean if it's going to make logical sense and it's not really out of the realm of possiability I think I would like to try it if now to see if it works, I mean you couldn't lose power from at least trying right?

I think it would be very hard to get 225-250whp without touching the bottom end.

exhaust flow is just as important as intake flow. if you think about it, what's the point of taking in so much air if it can't escape thru the other end as quick. then the intake would be limited by the exhaust flow.

would there be an advantage to getting a hyltech exhaust and header combo as opposite to a SMSP,RMF header with a custom mandrel bent system made?

All three companies make custom exhausts so at this point, it's just your preference as to which company you want to go with.

2.5" size piping is the rule of thumb when going NA. if you get the headwork done, it'll just increase your head flow. the size of the exhaust piping is sufficient.

Also would adding an exhaust cut out help or hurt performance if the car is tuned with a full exhuast system and muffler?

You want to tune it the way YOU are going to drive it. So, to answer your question, yes. if you tune with a full exhaust system and drive with an exhaust cutout, you won't be getting the most out of your exhaust cutout.

to improve flow in an exhaust i seen a cermic coating so there is no heat soak. they do this on bikes all the time.
