4th gen: Gauges not working!
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by "bafflednub" »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Ok, so I'm trying to fix these electrical quirks in my car (4th gen 93 prelude). I recently managed to get my fuel and temperature lights to come on all the way when I turn on my headlights. Before, they'd be very dim and would fade out the closer they got to full. I fixed this by messing around with the wires that go to my cigarette lighter port and the LED that goes inside the ash tray. I figured the black wire in this bunch goes to the ground on the lighter, the blue/white goes to the prong above it. The port works too. Not too sure what the two red wires go too. I had them plugged into the forked prong, but that made my fuel lights do the dim thing when the headlights weren't even turn on. Not perfect, but its a step closer to being solved.
So now theres the question with the instrument lights. These don't come on. At all. The climate control buttons' symbols are suppost to light up. I got these to come on one night when screwing with the same wires mentioned above; but also managed to blow out my clock/radio & interior lighting fuse.
So any ideas as to what the problem could be? I noticed an unconnected black wire that comes from an area that the cruise control & sunroof controls are; I'm guessing that this is from the dimmer and may be keeping them from coming on.
Or is it possible that the bulbs behind my dash are burnt out?
Any comments are appreciated, I'm really trying to get my lude working and looking better. Thanks
And one more thing: theres a blue wire coming from my ignition (the place I put the keys to turn it on). Any idea what this thing is?</TD></TR></TABLE>
I'm having the same issue as bafflednub. I was SEARCHING n i found that he posted this in Jan 06 n never got a reply.
So i am hoping i get an answer. I have a '92 si. When my headlights are off my fuel n temp gauges light up real bright. As soon as i turn my headlights on my fuel n temp gauges are not as bright. My speedometer n tachometer don't light up at all. I checked for blown fuses but they are all fine. I have a set of EL gauges w/inverter box. Now, if i install my EL gauges will i still have this problem?
Thanx in advance

I think even if you install the new gauges you will have the same problem. I hear it has to do with the connectors for your climate control being worn out. i am having the same problem but have been to lazy to trying and fix it. will be trying once the weather get better overhere in the northeast. but search a bit more i think there is a write up on it on the web if not on here.

Yeah i saw u were having the same problem. U still haven't had them fixed? I know i am still searching for an answer.

yeah i pretty much printed everything that i needed to know about doing it, now i just have to get my lazyself in there to do the work. i've just been to busy at work lately and going after other projects like the rims i want made based on my design sketch, (some of you may think i have stop trying to get that done, but i am still working on it) theres is so much one man can do. hope you find everything you need. i will also be getting a set of those gauges to put in while i'm at it.

That is what's supposed to happen if your dimmer switch is not 'clicked' all the way up.
Say you turn the light on and they dim, will they brighten back up if you turn the dimmer all the way up?

When the dimmer switch is all the way up, the gauges light up a lil bit more. But half of them are not visible. In other words i can see the gauges clearer when the dimmer is NOT all the way up.

Yup. They get brighter but i can only see half of each gauge.
N my speedometer n tachometer dont light up at all.

Can you find someone else with an EL and swap out parts with them until you find the thing that isn't working? That's what i would do to narrow it down...then if nothing changes with new gauges you know it's a wiring/connection problem.
