Default What bearings to use?????

Hey guys, I'm building a B16a engine. I need advice on what main and rod bearings to use. My builder insists I use OEM colour coded bearings. I've been reading alot in the forum and see alot of guys using ACL bearings. What is my best choice?

your builder is correct listen to him i have found in personal experience that the oem ones will guarantee you have the best tolerances

as for ACL lol no thanks!

If the clearances are good go OEM only goto ACL as backup

Your builder wants to use OEM so he can get the exact clearance he wants without unnecessary machining.

If they clearance out properly it's no big deal. I've used ACL, and now Clevite.

OEM bearings is what we use. With the different color coded sizes, you can get PRECISE measurements to get EXACT clearances on each single bearing. The only way you can get that with ACL is if you're lucky that they all fall into EXACT clearances or if you take out material out of the crank journals/rods to make the ACLs exact to each one.

I've used ACL in 3 builds. Never had a clearance issue, except one time which was machine shops fault for not telling crank had to be taken down so would need larger bearings for mains.

A "clearance issue" and exact clearances are two different things.

Cutting the crank is the LAST resort in getting the right clearances for us. Its nice to have different sizes with OEM bearings to make your adjustments in your measurements and not rely on having to cut cranks.

Clearance issues I would consider out of spec, same thing to me. If within clearances rock use them, if out of clearance dont.

The crank was turn for other reasons then bearing clearances. This was a few years ago and I believe the crank was scared so they took it down.

I was trying to figure out for a sec there how the crank got SCARED? hehe. j/k

Well thats the difference between certain builders.

Some like to fall "within" clearance specs.
Others like to be more Exact.

If you are paying for a build, wouldnt you like it to be more precise, rather than something falling within whats a desired range.
