Out of the box....

EX/SI trans all the way. But "best" is vague and relative term. What are your goals with the motor? But regardless of your goals, I'd probably still reccomend the same trans. The DX/LX/HX/CX etc trans' gears are WAY too long to do anything constructive with.

there was some rover trans that had the cable zc 1-5 with the 4.25 or 4.4375 final drive. I guess that's the best one.

Or the elusive euro aerodeck transmission with the hydro 4.4375 final drive.


but it would take more time, money, energy than it would be to just piece one together.

Always getting technical, hahaha.


And to the OP: When I said Si trans, I meant the "eg" hatch Si's. Relatively easy and cheap to come by...few hundred bucks.
