Glowing cat is due to way too much unburned fuel. Look for mis-routed ignition wires, loose rotor in the cap, mis-timed engine, leaking injectors, etc.

Dont punch your cat out.

check to see if your intake manifold gasket is leaking.

Wow there's alot of random **** going on in here. My first course of action would be too pull the cat off and see if the honeycomb inside is ok. If you see globs of metal hanging down, or it just looks like ****, time to replace.

The fact that it took so long to rev up makes me think it is seriously clogged, and getting overheated.

A glowing cat is typical of everything that he ^ is talking about. Time to take it off for inspection.

the leaking intake gasket I can understand(if the motor is running lean it would get super hot), the idle would be high though. its most likely the cat itself

A messed dizzy will expletive up your fuel, hence making the cat glow red.

OK in order to have THAT much extra fuel to make your cat glow RED your car probably wouldnt even run the cat is messed up all you have to do to check it is just unbolt the exhaust manifold side of the cat and run it if the problem is fixed then you know it was your cat.

You can state the same thing as many times as you would like until I actually see something like that with my own eyes I wont beleive it. I have dealt with pretty much EVERY problem with a honda in the 10 plus years I have owned and worked on them and I have NEVER had that kind of an issue running rich or lean.

you need to install a test pipe or resonator or something because with out a little back pressure you car will have no torque and still drive like poo.

ok i had a similar problem in my hatch. its too long to try to explain why it happened but basically the head gasket was leaking and the cyilnders were getting oil and coolant into them. before i know this i took it for a drive. the cat was soo clogged from the crap that it actually lit on fire, i swear to god. i gutted the cat and it fixed that problem. as for the car not revving right, i figured out that the distributor (whover wrote dizzy is a moron) wasn't spinning right. not sure why but once i replaced that the car revved like normal and its been happy days ever since. try replacing the cap and rotor and then make sure all 4 cylinders are firing. if you still have the prob the next step is the whole distributor.

Im sure the fact that you were messing with your timing has something to do with it. If your getting too much unburnt fuel and **** in your header, its going to clog up your cat. Fix the problem and replace the cat if its clogged.

Good luck.
