Default Top Speed limit removal EP3

Does anyone know how to get rid of that nasty 110mph limit that the stock ECU has. Or atleast make it higher without changing the stock ECU.

Hmm. I am not sure but when i hit 110mph the motor seems to cut out until i fall below that speed. I just got this SI so i don't know that much about it. What would you call the motor cutting out then?

Thanks, i had no clue about that. I guess it is possible that the previous owner changed the ECU. I am not sure if you know this one. What RPM does the IVTEC kick for the JDM CTR or JDM K20a?

Hmm. I am pretty sure i have the JDM ECU because my ivtec kicks in around 6k -6.2k . And when it kicks in it definitely feels like i pushed a NOS button or something. The only thing that sucks about having this ECU is the governor. Any thoughts on how to get rid of it? I know reflash is one option. I was actually considering changing the entire ECU because of this governor issue.

k20a3 does not have the three lobe VTEC.
Since you stated in this thread that you have a STOCK 02 Si, it is highly unlikely you have anything you're describing.

The only speed governor is gearing and power.

Cuttting out would be you reaching 110 then the motor revving down to 105 or so then going back up to 110.. Something like GM vehicles do.

You are most likely in too high of a gear, with too little power, and wind resistence.

Umm. I bought the car from a dealer so i assumed that the engine was stock. The Vtec definitely kicks in at around 6k-6.2k RPM it is very obvious and it definitely cuts out at around 110MPH. I just tried it again today on the way home just to make i wasn't going crazy. I have been asking around and all the symptoms point to a possible ECU swap. The motor is definitely a K20A3. However i cannot rule out the possibility that the internals might have been upgraded. The car is pretty quick.

Anyway, i kind of went off track for a second. Back to my original question. How do i get rid of the nasty 110MPH limit without changing the ECU. Or would i need to get an entirely new ECU?

What's the rev limiter set at? I know the redline on the tach should be about 6800 rpm, but how high does the motor rev?

Hahaha. Relax, it is not that serious. Calm down before you hurt yourself. Not everyone is as wise as you when it come to cars. If i wanted a Kia i'd probably come directly to you for advice. Thanks for your input though.
