Default I NEED HELP: AXLE PROBLEM

Last night I was driving home in my 93 CX (LS VTEC swap) and I started hearing some tap like or click like sound, coming from inside the hood, at the same frecuency the wheels were spinning so it was obviously something wrong with the running gear.
When I got home I got under the car and started spinning the wheel with my hands to check that out and saw the problem. By some strange reason the half or intermediate shaft taps the gearbox or like comes in and out (about I don't know, 10 mm maybe less). It doesn't completely come out but keeps looping that way, making that tap noise and that is obviously not normal. The problem also made the steel ring (that one at the end of the half shaft which is like a shield for the gearbox shaft seal) move freely along the shaft.
I followed the movement along the half shaft to the mount (the part where the half shaft and the inner CV joint get together, that has a bracket to bolt it to the engine), and the cause seems to be inside the outter CV joint but I have NO idea what could be the problem... I mean, the axle nut were VERY well installed (I mean they weren't loose at all) so the outer CV joint was spinnping like it was supossed to, but the shaft comming out of it had this strange axial movement that propagates along the shaft to the half shaft and the gearbox..

Any experiences? Ideas?

Please I need help.

PD: Pardon if my english isn't perfect.

might just be the ring on the end of the shaft.. try out a new snap ring or whatever they call it and maybe it'll hold the axle in there better

I think you mean the C clip? The gearbox end of the half shaft does not have a C clip.
