Default viper 791xv anyone using this car alarm in their cars?

Just wondering what you guys think of the viper 791xv security system and remote starter? I'm seriously thinking about ordering one. Any ideas on a place that sells them besides ebay? Thanks!

cool unit. Make sure you get it from a dealer and not off of ebay. I have had no problems with them before.

Yup. Works well.

Run the 791 in one car, and a 571xv in my daily driver. Both work equally as well.

Not a bad unit, a lot of flexibility. 4 programable out puts, good solid unit. Lifetime warranty on the brain. DEI's stuff is pretty easy to install. I would also look into a company called astro start. Another brand we use at the shop i work at. All good products. Astro start has far supiror range as compared to the DEI systems.

Yes the 791xv is a very good and dependable unit, with good manufacturers support, if purchased and installed at an authorized dealer, keep in mind it is for automatic transmissions only, and will not be installed in a 5 speed by an authorized dealer. 94

What's wrong with getting them off ebay? that seems to be the best price.. ?

Nothing if you don't mind buying something with no warranty...

If you buy from anyone other than an authorized dealer, you will get no warranty. None. Nada. Zip.

Best price does not always equal best deal... Especially if that means buying a new brain in 2 or 3 years should the first one crap out, when if you had bought from an authorized retailer, you could have gotten it replaced for free.

Well, are these things known to take just stop working for no reason? That's the only reason why I would need a warranty. Got any sites to look at to purchase one?

"Manufacturer Warranties:
Products sold by HookedOnTronics are packaged with the corresponding USA manufacturer warranty and service information (except cell phones). All the products sold on this site are original and unaltered, and are sold at a substantial discount over regular retail and manufacturer minimum suggested prices."

What exactly are you talking about? Can you explain more please?

If your going to quote it, quote it all... "The low prices offered by HookedOnTronics, are in general, not authorized by many manufacturers. In those situations, where the manufacturer does not authorize HookedOnTronics to sell at the prices advertised on our website, those manufacturers may decline to honor the warranties that generally accompany the product being purchased. HookedOnTronics cannot be held responsible for the refusal of a manufacturer not to cover or honer one of their warranties. In the event a manufacturer does refuse to honer one of their warranties, please contact us and we will make every effort to help you obtain service for your item."

That last part sounds like they would go to batt for you with DEI, You think?

A recalled run, [lets say in a 500 unit run there was a "glitch" lets say in 10% of them would initiate remote start "starter output" continuously, with no way of shutting it down other then cutting power or ground] So DEI does not want them out there, they recall the run and it is sold for salvage, but ends being sold on the Internet and they are packaged with the corresponding USA manufacturer warranty and service information

Or they got them at a distress/bankruptcy sale and there is nothing wrong with them and it's a very good price for the unit, except the one you get, Viper, [DEI] makes a pretty good product, very reliable but they are not perfect, I have had Viper system that are DOA, no biggie, I just get another one, I have had a few come back with problems, no biggie, I just get another one, I have had customers come back with discontinued units with problems, [must go to DEI for repair], no biggie, I will lone you something till yours comes back, [10 - 15 days in most cases] and that's a lifetime warranty on the main unit and the install we are an authorized dealer/install retail outlet.

Read the rest of their warranty information, and if you can live with it buy it, hell at that price get two of them then at least you will have a back up if the first one goes west. 94

ah, so I take it that you are a dealer then? I may as well just get it off ebay, cause if buy it from a dealer, brand new, not refurbished, it's going to be like $400, so forget that.. lol

^ I've never seen it that low at Best Buy but if they sell it at that price its the best price i've ever heard of installed. I actualy bought my 791xv from HookedonElectronics because of the price and knew of someone at a viper shop for the install. I've had it for several months now and it hasn't failed me yet. I wouldn't suggest buying it from a non authorized source but at that price it is hard to resist. DEI products aren't exactly known to malfunction but if it does for me I'll go to a cheap best buy and get it done and never worry about warranty again. I guess its the toggle between price now and possible total price later.

^^^^^^ so true. I seen people get screwed from buying from e-gay. I seen people buy alarms and the unit does not even work. I seen some that do work. If it does not work you have to go threw the headache of sending it back to someone who is out to make a fast buck. Then they lag or give you the run around. By that time you could of went to a dealer and been done. I would not trust hook on tronics. They are being sued by so many companies. pioneer and mtx being one. I not trying to sell you anything But I am a clifford dealer and could give you a deal on the rsx3.5. It the same as the 791. lmk. But what ever you do. Do the smart thing and get it from a dealer. No need to pay twice.

I've had the 791XV from ebay for about 6 months. Everything is working fine except sometimes it won't remote start. It was installed on a 5spd so I'm thinking its a problem in the wiring.
