when driving 97 civic coupe (manual), there's a strange, on and off sound (random) coming from behind and down from the air control switches. it sounds like squeaking brakes but not constant....here and there. turned on and of stereo, heater, clutch in and out....it's a faint sound....it seems like something center/back of the engine compartment or center/front of the dashboard.

 

i feel like there is a different random noise every other week im hearing.

with these kinds of noises there are three different categories

electrical(spark), plastic/rubber(squeak), metal (tinny)

- figure out which it sounds like,
- listen left, right, under, and over the dash to pinpoint it
- touch or press panels and random things to try and see if a difference is made

just narrow it down any other way you can, gl
probably the only thing i hate about older civics
