Default Short Shifter and best CAI location.

Ok guys, its been about a month since I've had the h22a dropped in my 4thgen. I have a couple question. I've heard that short shifters kind'a help. I can shift fast enough to not really need one but I've kind'a wanted to have one anywaysout of curiousity of the feel. What are some good adapters that I can get a hold of. Secondly, what's the best loacation on a 4th gen to put the CAI filter? Thirdly ( i know this want's on the topic) what is a Low Slip Differencial and what does that do?

theres only one position to put the cai filter, infront of the wheel well where your resonator used to be

I've heard that the short shift kits on the market aren't exactly a direct fit. They need a little modification of the center console and they don't really feel that solid. I may have heard wrong though, so take other opinions.

so the filter needs to go in between the bumper panel on bottom and the smal hole right below the resonator? do I just use flexible tubing to get in through that hole?

I've heard that I need to shave hole that the boot fits into near the 5th gear b/c the adapter takes up more room. does anyone else have any opinions about short shifter adapter and how they feel. If it makes my shifting feel less solid, I don't think I want it. Especially if I'm going to blow nearly $100 for a small piece of metal.

It sounds like you want to build your own CAI... If that was the case then you could pretty much do whatever you want. The production ones such as the AEM CAI, Injen, or Iceman all route the pipe they have along a route similar to the factory systems and locate the filter in the area where the factory resonator is located, which is behind the bumper and within the passenger side wheel well liner.

I bought an OBX short shift adapter and I hear that company bad mouthed a lot... probably often for good reason. I was actually impressed with their short shifter and it's hidden inside the console so nobody will see the cheesy name on my car anywhere. I didn't have to cut/grind/ modify my car or the center console or shift boot area at all to get it to fit. It just bolted on and fit like I'd have expected it to. I have had it on for about 25,000 miles and have had no issues arise from using it. It seemed to shorten the forward and rearward shift throws (like from 3rd to 4th or from 1st to second) but didn't change it from side to side... some say that this actually cuts down on the chance of a misshift from 5th to 2nd when you mean to go 5th to 4th since the sideways movement is stock but the front to back is less. The shifts feel no more or less notchy than they used to. My shifts have a bit of notchyness but I have never had the tranny fluid changed and have 120,000 miles on her so it's probably overdue.

From what I've seen the OBX, DC Sports, and Neuspeed look to be of similar construction, but if the specs are a bit different they would change the throw length different amounts and might require center console modification.

I have the neuspeed short shifter adapter, you can install it in like 15 mins no mods needed, but I dont think it's worth it. It feels fine and has a shorter throw but it's not worth the money. As for the intake I had the AEM and was happy w/ it. You need to take out your airbox and the filter fits in right in front of the passenger wheel behind the front bumper.

so the hole underneath the resonator box has nothing to do w/ CAI install? I figured getting the filter away from engine heat would be a good thing.

The piping goes through the hole and the filter attaches to the end of it. Try looking for some pics of prelude engines w/ a cai to get an idea of it.

When you say "resonator box" you are probably refering to the filter box, where the stock air filter is housed. The resonator is another part that sits directly below that filter box. It looks a bit like a black plastic tuba, and is mounted in the lower front fender, kinda behind the bumper and behind the inner wheel well liner. It takes air in, passes it through a hole in the metal bodywork that the filter box mouts to, and the passes the air into the filter box where it is filtered and sent to the throttle body by the remainder of the visible plumbing. The CAI will put a metal tube from the throttle body down to where the filter box is and then through the hole to where the resonator was, then a filter will be mounted there. It will be blocked from taking in hot engine compartment air by the metal body parts in the engine compartment.

I have DC short shifter...no mods where need to put it in. I really don't feel that much of a difference. My friends that have driven my car are suprised there is even an adapter on there. IMO save your $40~60 and spend it on something worth while...Wax, simple green, oil, filter....what not.

Thanks, I just figured out what everyone's been saying abou the CAI
The short shifter on the other hand is still in question. I've got my shifter cover off b/c I was cleaning underneath and getting all the dust and gunk out. The lude I bought used to be a rental a while back ( which is why the h22a was purchased) so everything is reall dirty
