Default Red 91 Civic Si Hatchback stolen in San Diego area

Update: It's been recovered.

Hi, my good friend's red Civic Si hatchback was stolen in Poway this Sunday morning. If any of you in the San Diego area see it, please let me know. Thanks.

It was mostly stock, except for gold 15 X 7 gramlight wheels on Khumo tires, a momo Monte Carlo steering wheel, a Sony MP3 player with silver face plate, and 94-01 integra center console, and SS brake lines.

It's a shame, she bought it from the original owner 3 years ago when it had only 103K miles. It still has the original paint on it, and never was in an accident. The interior was really clean too. I know this car so well because I worked on it for the past three years. It put so many new oem parts on it.

So, please let me know if you see any parts from this car for sale or see the car around town.

Thanks...

These are the only pictures I could find right now. I did have the new front bumper painted and put on a new OEM lip since this picture was taken.

it sucks that stock cars are being stolen for the wheels.

hope you get it back in one piece, or have full coverage.

so, it's been recovered. I went with the owner to the tow yard to look at it. The tow yard would only let her go inside because she is the owner. She said it's missing the wheels, distributor, battery, plug wires, radiator, muffler, brake lines, steering wheel, and stereo. There were no wheels on it.

I wonder how they tow a car with no wheels, if they just use a flatbed or what. I hope there is no undercarriage damage because of that.

There is full coverage, luckily. It will be interesting to see what kind of estimate the adjuster writes.

After the adjuster looks at it, it can be towed to my place to put it back together.

she is working on settling the total loss with her insurance company..

They have valued the car for $2,700. It seems a little low. I think I could have sold it for more than that. I am thinking if I should help her fight for more money or just accept it. On the plus side, she can buy it back for only $100. So, if she accepts their offer, she gets the car plus $2,200 cash. It sucks that it will have a salvage title though.

I guess that is more than enough to get the car running again, assuming there is not hidden damage. I looked at it, and it is missing the radiator, air box, distributor, plug wires, integra armrest, stereo, steering wheel, and wheels. And the ignition is all messed up of course. Also, the hood closes, but it is stiicking up a little on one side. Luckily the seats are still there.

I just worry how careful the tow truck drivers were when towing it without wheels on it. When I pick it up, I just might bring some wheels with me to put on it before i tow it again.

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU COULD HAVE SOLD IT FOR (STREET VALUE) THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT BB VALUE THERE IS NO ARGUING OVER THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE RECEIPTS FOR THINGS & EVEN THAN THEY WILL STILL TELL YOU TO FLY A KITE BECAUSE THE CAR IS 16 YEARS OLD

Sad but true.

Funny, I'd never thought about what would happen to your car afterwards if your wheels got jacked, that sux to think it could easily have been damaged way more by the tow truck than the theves themselves...
If it makes you feel any better when I slid my PGT off the road 6ft down into a dry creek (hairpin corner at the bottom of a steep hill + total brake failure = ...) the cops were called and the tow truck guy they got was (much to my surpise) brilliant AND careful. He thuroughly assessed the situation and got my car out without causing any further damage to it.
I acctually started it up and drove it home and besides the scuff marks on the front bumper the frame only had a little tiny tweak at the front bottom corner which cost $700 to fix.

Cliffs: The tow truck driver who pulled out my car carefull hopefully the tow truck driver who got your friend's car was carefull too.

two of the wheels have very noticeable marks. I had leaking brake calipers, and the brake fluid leaked onto two of the wheels. So there are a couple of spots on the two wheels where you can see missing paint from where the brake fluid leaked onto them.

actually, it turned out better than planned, the insurance company is offering her $3,200 for the car, and $100 to buy it back.

I was talking to a guy at the tow yard and he said most of the damage to the undercarriage would be caused by the thieves when they dropped the car onto the ground after taking off the wheels. And actually maybe the tow truck driver did take care in towing it. The whole exhaust system was taken off and put inside the car. Maybe the tow truck driver did this so as not to damage it.

hopefully i should be able to pick it up on monday

When I bought my 91 Civic SI a few months ago I had no idea this car was still a target of thieves. When I bought my ITR in 98 I immediately installed a hidden switch to disable the fuel pump and that saved my ITR 2 months later when the thieves came. I'll be installing a switch on my Civic today.
