problem with my car and i cant figure it out (sort of overheating)
hey guys, i got a problem with my car. i have been trying to figure out what it is but i jsut cant seem to figure it out, so if someone could PLEASE help me.
lets start off by explaining the car: 1993 Del Sol S. Stock motor (D15B7 i think), exhaust, tranny, everything. timing belt has been changed once together with water pump and all the other belts. the only aftermarket thing that is on the car is a CAI.
here is the problem that im having. A few months back, my motor started to run a little hot, usually my temp guage sits at about 1/2 way up. now it started to sit about 3/4 of the way up. now some people might say its the temp sensor that runs the guage but my car is doing another thing. i dont get that great fuel economy out of it anymore, in the sense that i only get about 200-250 miles on my tank while i used to get about 300+ i dont know if these two "syptoms" have anything to do with each other but they started appearing at the same time so i have a feeling they go hand in hand. Also, and I just started noticing this a few days ago, when i accelerate i hear a high pitched whistle, sort of like a turbo spooling up, but i dont have a turbo or a supercharger on my car so i know its not anything spooling up. again, i dont know if this has anything to do with the other or if it has any significance at all.
So far i did a few things to try to fix this problem: i flushed my coolant. changed my thermostat, put my fan on a new relay, which works. brand new valve cover seal, grommets, spark plug tube seals. oil change of course. and nothing seems to help.
does anyone know what is wrong with my car or have any ideas or any ideas on how i might be able to fix it?
thanks a bunches in advanced

the two problems may be related and they may not be.
test your O2 sensor, that's usually the cause of poor mpg. simple volt meter on the white wire at the ECU should read ~.25-.75 when warm and cruising. ~1V at WOT and ~0V decelerating with foot off accelerator in gear.
as far as the car overheating... the O2 may be related, if it's running the car lean it will overheat.

not necessarily, the O2 starting to go bad will cause poor mpg but not set the CEL.
there is also a bunch of other things that may cause this, I just can't think of anything right now. (too much going on, sorry)
