I don't know **** about Preludes, but what I can tell you is unbolting your exhaust is ghetto and rice all at the same time. You won't gain ****, so don't do it.

You're wrong.

yes unbolting your exhaust sounds like ****

but if done with a good header, you pick up a good bit of power, why do you think drag cars run open header?

Think before posting

You would loose torque but gain top end correct ??? because of the loss in backpressure ?

ugh

I thought the backpressure myth had finally disappeared....you make more power over the whole powerband open header

2point6 has some good dynos that could show that....

i have run open header and it felt as though i had lost down low (butt dyno)....... maybe we should clarify that statement though more power "tuned" ....is that correct ? or were those sheets with stock maps/untuned

of course you would want to tune it to make the best power

you can't make assumptions based on your feelings. only sure way of knowing whether it does or not is to dyno it. tuned of course. untuned would just be pointless.

thats why i wrote butt dyno in there because its a feeling.... and as we all know a the butt dyno isnt always accurate. I thought everyone would know wut i meant when i put (butt dyno) < like that

How much "power" are we talking about here again? To me 3-5whp (if that) at the top end of the RPM range at the cost of annoying droning and an absolutely ghetto sounding exhaust isn't worth it, especially if it's your daily driven car.

On a race car, it's a different story but I'm sick of seeing ricers in Civics running around with an unbolted exhaust.

NO hell no you will gain power untuned

BUT gain far far more tuned and you would have to be stupid to run anything untuned!

LOL. Maybe it's because I'm a turbo snob. I don't need to unbolt my exhaust to gain 3-5whp. My car can gain anywhere from 10-15whp just from the sun setting and a nice chilly breeze.

Yess we all know now that tuned you will gain power. But that wasnt the question.... does anyone have any dyno sheets or other proof that untuned you will or will not gain power ? If so where in the powerband and is the low end torque lost ?

okay so I do gain nothing then from doing it...as i have experienced it seems to give more power then having an exhaust..although it does seem like the exhaust gives more of an high end....I dont know how this thread got to open headers...but I thought you lose a lot of power doing this unless your running a turbo setup which would be perfect for it..

I am one of the few people I know that has a gutted interior for a daily driver and loves the way the car sounds ALL the time. I bought a header and couldn't get my catback hooked up about 3 months ago. The car was absolutely deafening. Granted, I did LOVE running all the way through the revs, but all it would take is a week or so before you had noticeable hearing loss.

and butt dyno said yes, it's quicker.

I bet you wouldnt see the power loss on a hot day if you plumbed in a 5 foot wide by 4 foot tall roof mounted intercooler with about 24,000in^2 of cooling fin surface!

Even with that, you would be killing anyone else that is within 50 feet of you. If you go full throttle past someone with their window down, you're going to **** them off. If you go run on a track, by all means, do it. It seriously isn't for the streets.
