i have the same problem, does your intake sound like its farting? im thinking its fuel related, which in turn will equal out to be electrical

check your ecu for any codes, just because your not getting a check engine light doesnt mean its not throwing a code, could be your sensors more than likely.

its funny to because it idles fine...im going to strap the timing gun on it today but im starting to think that its not the timing instead a deficiency in fuel somewhere

i also been noticing that my fuel economy is horrible. i find my self opening the throttle way open to get some power (which i dont cause it bogs like mad)when on the highway slightly uphill, going up hills is a nightmare... my fathers 96 4 door honda accord automatic is better on gas

Maybe the fuel pump? But that's a long shot, deffinitely thinking it's something electrical such as throttle position sensor or MAP sensor.

lol shooting flames...no im not quite there yet. i dunno bcuz if it was timing that was off it wouldve been idleing like ****. but it doesnt. im thinking that it has to do with some sort of intake charge sensor that indirectly messes with fuel/air ratio what do u think?

Hey ive been having the same problem wit my civic i have many mods under the hood run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner like lucas or redline and make sure ur plugs are gaped at .40. also check to see if you have any vaccum leaks with a bottle of carbon choke cleaner spray by the gaskets and vaccum lines and if the car revs up its a vaccum leak. if i learn anything else about this problem ill let you know.

make sure your going off the timing marks(white marks, the middle line) and not the red TDC

first check your top dead center. align the crank pulley to TDC(red line) witht he mark on the lower timing belt cover. THen make sure the head is aslo at TDC be aligning the cam gear tothe mark on the head.

if that is good, then check timing(white marks)

I have the same issues with my D16y8, and starting to get some really weird things now. For one, my exhaust leak KILLED my MPG and performance, and it was kinda hard to hear it, but it was there. However, i fixed that, and then it was off and on.

Things im thinking. Knock sensor, or engine vibrations are setting the timing back 3*. Something ignition related like the dizzy. But most of all, fuel. My engine makes all sorts of funny noises while at idle, the idle will stay still for a few minutes, drop and start farting away. I have cleaned and checked about everything, except:

Fuel pump
Actually dizzy
KNock sensor
a Shorting wire in the engine harness

However here is a keen observation. When ever i run seafoam through the tank, absolutely ZERO bogging. I have full power. The next time i fill up? its better but not much. And the 3rd time, back to normal. Its been doing this for about a year now. It so stupid it hurts, seafoam has nothing to do wtih the performance of the car, but yet about 20 miles after i dump that bottle in the gas tank, i get around 100% more power, and no hesitation.

Im kinda thinking a bad fuel pump, even tho my fuel pressure is fine. I can hear the wine change pitch with my idle.

Ive already changed the TB, still no luck. Its gotta be either the mentioned above, or an intake leak around the Head, blown headgasket forcing me to loose compression, or something internal is MESSED! i dont like this because its getting bad enough where its really hard to merge on the highway, even at 5k rpms. (lots of dead spots)

ok i finally narrowed it down to the timing being several degrees off timing bcuz wen i set the timing light to 16 deg. the tdc was way off the fuggin tab so the timing is off.. is there a tutorial somewhere for the d16y8
