Dead civic
I have a 1999 Civic EX that has died on me. Long story short my synthetic oil was gone and I think it spun a bearing on the bottom end to start with, then I tried to get the car home after putting more oil and oil lubricant in it. after about 20 miles the car lost all power and 20 mph on interstate was all it would do. After stopping I fired it up again and it sounds like pure metal raking inside the motor. I know i screwed it up but now I am wondering if it would be best to try a rebuild or just buy another motor.
Also I am wondering how I can tell which engine I have in my car. I have seen d15, d16, b16, h22 just to name a few.

another y8 if you wanted back to stock ..but what are you trying to get out of your car as far as goals? that would help as well
I have the same car, if you didn't do anything with it, you should have a D16Y8 in it, but to check if you look on the tranny to the left of the header and on the engine block (still in the front but don't remember where) you can see the code for the engine.
I believe it's somewhere in the area that I circled.

EDIT* A new Y8 should only cost a couple hundred for another motor, that's NOT including install.

call local motor swap shops.. likely they have a d16y8 from someone swaping it out for a better motor.. you can get them $400-600.. and because its a stright forward swap should cost $400-600 to install (if you can;t get it done yourself)..
he said the cheapest and best way to go...not or b16 or b18. it doesn't seem like he wants to put more into it than he has to. Just get another d16y8. It will install quickly and easily, and it won't break your wallet.
