Default clutch went out

40mph in 3rd gear. d17a2
finally went out on me. but, luckly it was down the street from home.
should i do a kswap or just fix it?
3rd gear haves bad synchros or something. almost all the gear's are mess'd up too..

money isn't an option if convinced.

Ummm a clutch is maybe 300 bucks in parts, and you can get an entire tranny for about the same.
So fix the car for 600 bucks, or swap a motor for almost 6000?
Hell, if it was me, I'd drop a clutch and tranny in it. Its routine wear and tear.

If it reeked like hell (always a good indication of bad wear or a bad driver) and it happened on a downshift, you've probably roasted your friction plate, either through wear and tear and that downshift broke the camels back, or your bro was being rough with it.

You might find the tension springs on the clutch friction plate have lunched themselves.

i want to pull some serious number's with an a2 even if it's illegal in c.A. my second car is going to be a cb7. I just find the a2 more better to work with, and any k motor would be faster then a d17. but i plan to have a two set up's for an k20a2. 1st set up will be legit, 2nd set up WON'T.

when i complete my 1st set up for my em2, plan to work with a cb7. Then go back to my em2 and build some more serious power. i would like to skip the 1st set up. But, there's alot of reason's why & don't want to get into detail's right now.

I still need a diagram schematic of my d17-a2. motor/tranny

Are you going to try to put a K in a cb7? I looked around for mounts for that a while back and found nothing. It would be a really hard swap. If you didn't mean you were putting a K into a cb7 sorry. Anyways, if money isn't an option if you're convinced, then get the K because you will love it, if you love power and speed. If I had the money I'd have a K swap.

how many miles on the car? Im at 68k with the stock clutch on my 2k1, but the exedy and flywheel are in the closet just in case.

Im in the same boat with the trans, my input shaft is gone. You should be able to find a decent MT at the yard around your area, about 3-400 buks.

1. D series trannys SUCK

2.K20A3 is the cheapest swap can be done for under $3500 if you know what you are doing

3.a good clutch/flywheel and tranny set up will probally run you into almost the $1000 mark but in the end it will still be a D series. just go K.

Maybe some of you guys abuse the tranny or something. Im at 83K and I dont drive like a granny but my tranny is still smooth. I also have an 01. Changed the fluid at 60k and never slam in to gears.
