Default Just installed ITR cams, idle is weird...

Actually, I did a timing belt/water pump replacement as well as installation of ITR cams and skunk2 cam gears. Here's the after install symptoms I'm noticing.

-greyish smoke coming out in puffs from the exhaust
-bumpy idle (from normal to almost stalling to normal again)
-after applying some gas, revs go down and almost stall the engine, but manages to slowly come back up

Cams are set to (0, 0) and I plan to get my Hondata installed and dyno tuned, but I don't want to drive the car in this condition if there's something I must fix first. After researching information on ITR cams, I was under the impression that since these cams are only slightly more agressive than GSR cams they should be daily drivable and just as reliable since it is technically OEM.

Any ideas on what could be causing the problem?

Background specs to help...
94 GSR
183,000 miles
valve adjustment done
timing checked
Recently installed NEW: spark plugs, dist. cap/rotor, radiator, thermostat, belts, hoses, timing belt, water pump

have you upgraded your valve springs? maybe the valve seals are going with the new cams in.

check your cam timing crank timing.Maybe adjusted valves too tight.Plug wires in the right firing order.Reset your ecu and let it idle for a bit.You know we always mess up on the simple stuff.

What difference do the valve springs make? The valve seals going out at the exact time that he put in new cams and going from good to bad overnight? Unlikely.....valve seals smoke alot at idle and the smoking goes away after idle. My guess is, either your cam timing is off or you might have the TPS and MAP sensors plugged in backwards.

Well, I didn't disconnect the TPS or MAP sensors so I'm sure that wouldn't be it. When you say cam timing what do you mean? You mean the settings on the adjustable cam gears? At the moment they are attotally stock settings (0,0). If you mean timing, I do notice something weird about the timing. When I shot the timing belt with a timing light the marks are way off. It is way off to the point where even if I adjusted the distributor to the max to get the marks close to the TDC mark on the lower timing belt cover it's still a good 1/2 inch away still. What can cause the timing to be off that much?

I will try adjusting the valves using the larger of the 2 feeler gauges just in case I might have set them too tight.

I dont mean the marks on the cam gears, I mean its a tooth off on the cam gears....which can also effect your ignition timing. Thus, even though your gears are set to 0,0 one of them is a tooth off causing it to be off.

Ok, I'll check that out tomorrow and give you an update. Thanks for the help so far!

Your cam timing is off by a tooth or two. I know its already been said, but it is defintily your problem.

Nors and 95 integra are exactly correct. I was 1 tooth off. I lined up the side marks a little too low and slightly retarded the exhaust cam while slightly advancing the intake cam. After fixing it, I was also able to adjust my timing to 16 BTC and the idle is perfect!

I just hope the little mistake didn't do too much damage when I ran the engine off spec. Thanks for all the help!

Cool that you fixed it, I wouldn't worry about any damage.
