Hey guys, MY buddy just bought an AP1, the car is awesome, but I put an Apex'i VAFC2 in it last night and everything went smoothly just wondering how efective the tool will be, i've heard different stories, just wanted to see if any of you already have one ect..but he want's do do an Exhaust, Aem cold air (it came with the car) and a test pipe, a coil pack grounding bridge, mabey lower VTEC about 500 rpm and adjust the fuel accordingly, Then Dyno it with the controller, thanks! Love the car simply awesome to drive!!!

A Vafc can be a great mod on AP1's if tuned PROPERLY. With the bolt on's your buddy is planning to put on, and a well tuned Vafc, he should see some decent gains.

Goodluck!

A VAFC is only as good as its tuner.

because it is a piggy back, you will need to reset your oem ecu about every week because the oem ecu is a learning one and will adapt to the vafc.

If you have it tuned for part throttle, then yes an ECU reset is necessary every so often. If you have it tuned for WOT only, then your ECU will NOT need to be reset.

But you tuned for only WOT and not partial throttle, then you are not using the full potential of the AFC, correct? In which case, I wouldn't use it all then. But that would just be my opinion.

Agreed that it won't be used to full potential, but you will still see gains at only a WOT tune. If you don't mind the reset then do get it tuned for both part and WOT. Let's face it, when going for a spirited drive your really only mashing down on the gas pedal anyway IE: WOT.

the more bolt on you have, the less stock fuel trim is effective, there's where the piggy back unit comes to play. vafc is not know for gaining peak power than smoothing out power band

most people cheap out on the dyno and end up with min. gain.

Ive seen some nice gains with the vafc. N/A leaned out to about 13:1 full throttle. Stock is at 11:1.

Why would the ecu need to be reset once a week, it will reset itself every cycle of driving anyway?
