Default Any other 5th gen owners have water in the bottom of trunk after rain?

I have the carpet out of my 5th gen to do some wiring and have been noticing that when it rains water is in the truck. Around the spare tire well where there are two black plugs. Is this common?

yes I do. its a very common problem in the 5th gen, something to do with the seals around the tail lights. do a search im sure you will find the fix

it can be the seals around the tail lights, but thats unlikely.

your most likely culprit is your rain runners from the roof. Pull all your carpet out of the trunk and look at the two sides. You will see 2 drain type plastic runners. That removes rain from the roof where you have the two black strips that run from front to rear.

Follow those dump tubes down and check the exit area. Most the time the get all cloged up and water works its way out into your trunk, rather than being put outside the car where it was designed to run off.

That is your most likely culprit to water in your trunk. that and bad seals around your trunk too......but thats a really visable check......

what I did was just push the 2 black plugs out and I haven't had water in there since.....Look in your trunk by the spare tire, adn you'll see 2 rubber disc looking things. Just push those out, and you're done

that lets the water out but that still doesn't solve the problem. i pulled the drain plugs out as a temporary fix. it only solved the problem of the water flooding inside my trunk. everything in my trunk still gets wet nd such. good luck.

You sometimes get blockages caused by debris, leaves etc, in the two drain tubes of the moon roof at drivers rear and passenger front in this diagram :

You have to clear them down, I used a fairly low pressure compressed air jet then wash them through, by gently pouring a jug of water down to make sure they drain outside the car.

im currently having the same problem in my 6th gen hatch. my back windshield was replace, before that water never got inside. i believe they didnt seal it right, theres no other explanation. im gona take the car back to the shop and have them refix so that the water doesnt get in.

Mine does it too. I also removed the plugs so the water just drains right out.
