First Ever Civic Si!
Hey guys, new to the site as well as new to the car. I came from the oversized world of SUV's were most of the modifications were made so that i could drive where others could not... which is still a whole lot of fun regardless. But a month ago i traded away my '02 trailblazer for my first actual car, a 2007 Nighthawk Black Civic Si. I love it, everything about this car screams speed as all of you well know, but i want to make it faster, more powerful, more efficiant.... well lets face it... more fun. I already finished converting the stock stereo over to a complete alpine type R system powered by the IVA-d310 pulse touch dvd/cd head unit, ipod connector, two 12 inch subs, and a 2000 watt amp... oh yeah and a PS2. So how about giving me some advice on how to add some more lightening to the thunder. Looking for a natural aspirated engine right now so, CAI, Headers, and exhaust advice very much appriciated. Thanks Guys

Hey... I was wondering if you could post a picture of that sterio set up.. I have the Si without Navi and am VERY confused on how I would be able to put an aftermarket head unit in there, since the stereo is built into the dash. ... My email is scratchnhard@hotmail.com if you want to email pictures.

This is my 3rd Si and my seventh Honda. I have been turning wrenches on cars since LBJ was President.
A lot of people do not like to hear this, but I suggest that you leave your Si alone. Think about it: Are you a better engineer than the entire Honda engineering department? They turned out an engine that makes 100 hp per litre. If the Z06 engine was as effecient, it would make 200 more hp than it does.
Your Si comes with a very effcient exhaust. You could hang a louder axle back section, but there is no extra power you can free up. And the factory sends it out the door with a tuned header.
The intake side is OK. Again you could make it louder with an aftermarket system, but you run the danger of screwing up the air mass sensors or sucking water into your engine. Swapping in a K&N filter is equal to the Mugen filter which is the only intake modification they are making.
You could do a Hondata reflash of the ECM, but that will change the engine's personality. Vtec will come on much quicker, but you may not like that in a street driven car.
You could lower the car, but suspension travel is a good thing. And it rides pretty stiffly as it sits. And dicking with the suspension could mess up the VSA which works well as it comes from the factory.
I know it is kind of disappointing to have a car that is so good that there is nothing meaningful you could do to improve your new car's performance.
Well that is not entirely true; tires and brake pads could always be better. I recommend Porterfield brake pads, they are worlds better than the crap they sell at your local parts dealer.
As I use race rubber when I track my car, I feel strongly about the difference between street tires and race tires. Race tires are great... on the track but lousy for the street. Even the best, most expensive street tires are only barely adequate for racing use. So you could spend big bucks for "performance" street tires, but do not fool yourself into believing that they are even close to being as capable as real race rubber.

Have you gotten under a Si and looked at what the factory gave you? You do not make 100hp per litre by screwing up the exhasut.

....Yeah I have. I worked at a dealership, saw them on the lift all the time, took a look at the workings....
And I by no means want to start an arguement, but generally stock exhausts and intakes aren't really all that great. I'll give it to the intake since it comes stock with a cold air. But the exhaust is constrictive.

True. While the Si is a performance car, it is still geared to be a Low Emmissions Vehicle and a gas friendly one as well. That's why I think the full potential of the car is not released. But then again when you compare it to most other N/A cars in it's class it outdoes them hands down. Example:
GTI = 200hp 2.0L (but it's turbocharged)
'99 Eclipse GS-T = 200hp also turbocharged
Eclipse GTS = 210hp (but it's a 3.0L)
Nissan Sentra Spec V = 175hp 2.5L
