So... as tax return comes soon and the holiday season goes by, so does a lot of money I'll be getting.. so I was getting ready to set aside some money.. make a big purchase...
I was gonna get either
• set of rims/tires
• coilovers
• possibly even both
well, thanksgiving evening, I went into the hospital with a swollen appendix, which ended up rupturing before the surgergy the following morning... well things finally came in and all the claims are practally all settled..
My hospital stay = 63,000 (Jesus H Christ!~
)
My *** covers= $3,000+
In other words... my insurance took care of about 80% of this outrageous bill. It's a damn good thing I went to a participating hospital otherwise i'd owe all 63k.
Life blows when it hits you hard
thanks for reading.. just had to type out my new STRESS ... oh i'm gonna
tongiht

No such thing as free.. canadians simply pay more taxes dedicated to healthcare, it averages out that canadians pay roughly 80% as americans over their lifetime for healthcare. Why the difference? Due to the interference of the gov't doctors are paid 40-50k vs 80-200k in the U.S. Our quality of doctors is higher and many of canada's finest leave to the U.S. to get their 'fair share'.
A couple years back I came in from a 2am motorcycle ride to clear my head and I heard a girl screaming from in the elevator. It finally hits the bottom floor and her and 2 guys that worked at my building were carrying her. Turns out her appendix blew up in her sleep.

ouch!
ouch!
Thank god you have insurance.
I've done a lot of reading with my investing, and the number of people with insurance under 25 is abysmally low, like less than 40%. Usually because a job does not offer it or cannot be afforded on a low salary, or just plain ignorance.
Remember kids, make sure you've got health insurance.
I'm glad you're fine though, appendixes seem so mundane but you can flat out die when one blows.
My friend just had back surgery, he's totally up on drugs and playing Scarface at home, what were you up to as an invalid?

^ What he said, I am going to school to be a CRNA and a bunch of the best people in our hospitals are the best and brightest that leave Canada to either earn what they deserve or pay off their med school which is still ridiculously expensive even though they get paid ****.
Jon
PS: Glad to hear you are OK, having an appendix burst can be a really bad thing if not taken care of right. I am a bit suprised at the $63K bill, but I guess you aren't eating much of it when it really comes down to it.

I feel for you man. I have had 2 major spine operation. The last one they screwed a 4 inch Titanium bar into my cervical spine after a double fusion. These were both over a 5 year period.
Total bill (Including Hospital, Surgery, Physical Therapy and follow-ups) = $373,500.00
My piece was about $6,000 on the 1st on and about $2,000 on the second (new job, better insurance
). Guess I should feel lucky, specially since I can walk again without being in incredible pain.

Yeah taxes in Canada sux, but Id rather pay more tax then having to pay for a hospital visit all up front.
There are pros & cons I guess...
If doctors are solely in the profession just to make some $$$, then I think thats not really right. They should become doctors because they want to help people out with whatever aliment they have.
My $0.02
