Default Type-R Tranny??

Hey guys, just a quick question, Im putting a Type-R tranny on the list of big mods while my car is hibernating this winter. I just wanted to know if it has any of the grind issues. I mean I heard it doesnt, I just wanted to know if anyone knew from actual experience?

Thanks in advance!

I was actually thinking about it because I really cant stand the grind issues anymore. Not to mention my clutch just **** the bed. Its always been over notchy, and tough to shift. Maybe the previous owner? I was also considering trying to find an 06 Si tranny, I heard they werent bolt up though. Is it true you have to swap out the guts from the si tranny and put them in the type S tranny? Any other tranny alternatives?

I think I may have found a solution, Im gonna go with the EP3 hybrid. Im thinking the Quaife LSD, EP3 1st through 3rd gears and the EP3 final drive. This should take care of the grind issues. Im thinking Exedy stage 2 and ITR fly wheel. Thanks for the suggestions! Any other ideas?

check the synchros if you're worried about grinding issues.

Im going to check all that stuff during the rebuild. Im just lookig for a k series gear set for an all motor application, that is like the Type-R, any suggestions for a possible mathc up? Plus I didnt want to spend 2500 for a brand new type R!

oh i jus found out dat da type r gears r shorter 4 sum reason ... if u have a fast car u will end up shiftin faster ... plus its much stiffer ... da type s tranny would b better 2 use if ur still lookin 4 gears ... a performance clutch does make a difference n ur synchroids do make a difference cuz in my old celica my 3rd grinded until after i cleand it n changed a tranny fluid n put more synchroids ... (friend told me bout it ... i jus did it) ... so up 2 u ... u bought it used could b da reason its grindin ... dat person must not have been maintainin it rite ...

Type-S tranny plus the 5.something FD from a CR-V will get you effectively ITR gearing. Plus, you'll retain that excellent ratio spacing that Honda developed.

dude, please invest some time and money in some english classes. i honestly understood maybe half of what you said.

i'd just like to say that you cant just add synchro's into a tranny. it dosent work that way. it's like adding an extra fly wheel to your transmission. it just wont work. for the rest of your post i have no idea what u said, so i will leave it at that.

but regarding the dc5-r vs the dc5-s tranny, the gears might be slightly shorter, but i cant imagine it being that much shorter. i live in so cal and when its not rush hour, we cruise at about 80 mph, so i end up sitting at about 4k rpm's regardless.

Definitely helps out, is it really that bad on the free way at 4k? What clutch and flywheel did you use?

I've had my type r tranny in for close to 5k miles, still shifts like butter, but its to early to tell. my s tranny lasted 25k HARD miles b4 2nd became usless. I say go for type r tranny the gearing is great and the LSD is awesome. yeah on the highway I sit around 4200 rpm at 80mph, 05-06 trans sit around 4k at 80. I dont daily drive the car and it very rarely sees highway driving so i dont care. I highly doubt that it will never grind though, no tranny is un-breakable......

Oh thats cool, I doubt mine is going to come with all that, so I think Im going to go with an exedy stage 2 and ITR flywheel.

so i just bought an obx lsd for my 99 TURBO Si with an LS transmission. when i bought the car the guy did something to the b16a2 tranny and swapped it out with an LS integra tranny. You think im better off putting the OBX lsd in my LS tranny and keeping the transmission....or should i buy a type r transmission or even a GSR tranny with the money I would get from selling my LS with OBX lsd in it??? is the Type-R lsd just as good as the OBX lsd??? Thanks
