Default EF rav's HIGH!

I had someone installed a Apex controller into my 91 civic hatchback DX. what i notice was that, on the controllers digital RMP's show that it stops a little over 6,000. When i was testing the controller, i went back and look through the other settings and i saw that i shifted at 6,700. I probably could of gone a little more higher but i didnt want to beat on my car to much.

so my question is why on some of the clusters it shows that the cars revs a little over 6,000 but how come i went over that? I mean i know thats good that i rev that high but i though that thoughs cars dont rev that high??

nothing to much has been done to the car, but i will be doing a mini swap in the spring

Its just a question i wanted to know

thanks

freddy

you can rev them to 7k+ all day long. stock dx's might not make power up there, but i'm pretty sure you can do it. you can do it with SIs, and i seem to remember rev'ing out my old dual point for all it was worth

My ecu had the rev limiter reset to 9K, or at least that's what it said on the side of my ecu.

I shifted at 7500 all the time. I had hoped to blow that damn B2 up by the time it was ready for the build, even pegged the tach at every shift for a week straight, just burned up a bunch of oil.

yeah, i remember when that engine was in my old daily dan, i used to rev it to 7800 all the time, and jeremy would freak out.

at the dragstrip, i would bump my rev limiter all the time on my old stock a6, it was at 7800, with 12 psi of boost

Rev it to 6500. Like your supposed to. There's no point in going any higher unless you have a better cam and upgraded valve train to go with it.

Revving without the proper internals is point less.

The springs are designed to be at maximum RPM (maximum repeatable load) for 10-15 hours, depending on the engine and since you ever really go there for seconds at a time, you don't ever meet that. But going past the set fuel cut, like 7800rpm as someone said, can reduce that life to a single hour, and alto you are there for seconds at a time, you can still snap a spring, thus dropping a valve due to aging of parts!

And a cam is designed to give power at a set RPM, called the power band. An A6 ain't making much past 7000rpm, bringing it hire would be pointless, and would just wear the engine faster. But rev them out of you want, I could care less about your engine.

i reved my a6 up to 8k.

supercharged. it just kept making power on the dyno the faster i spun that blower.

motor is still strong til this day.

for a stock a6... i would say 6500-7000 at the most. you arent making power, but at least it'll drop the gear in the sweet spot when you shift.
