Default weird code on chipped p28

my buddy bought a 95 civic si with what is supposedly a gsr motor with a fairly worked head and a chipped p28. when he recieved the car it was running bad because the previous owner had put the wrong plug wires on it. just put new cap rotor wires plugs on and took it for a ride. the engine ran fine, however it was running piggy rich. half way through the ride the cel came on. turned out to be a 37, which is not a code so far as i know. i even double checked it to make sure it wasn't a 36. Anyone ever see this?

he's kind of worried that he's going to have to get a new ecu, i don't know what to tell him.

lemme know

thanks

that's my point

is it possible that a bad ecu could throw weird codes?

i don't have any experience with chipped ecus, but im going to assume that this is weird and probably advise him to replace the ecu

Since its a chipped p28 you can cut the jumper wire in the ecu to make go to its stock way. I think its label j01 in the ecu.. and if the code goes away it might be a bad chip.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by iredline2000 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Since its a chipped p28 you can cut the jumper wire in the ecu to make go to its stock way.
