Default EF with GSR swap, what air intake for California smog?

What air intake should I run in my EF with a GSR B18C1 swap. I am looking to run an intake that will be CA smog legal. Has anyone ran an oem stock set up or the AEM short ram for the GSR and how does it fit in my engine bay? Will I need to relocate my battery? I am concerned with fitment since I will be running the Stock Intake manifold. Any advice will help.

Thanks guys!

I use an Injen short ram no problems with smog because it has the EO carb # on it. I believe AEM also has the carb # on it, so it'll be legal. I don't know the answer about the stock air box fitment.

It kind of depends on what intake you are using with the B18C.

I've got a bar'd B18C in my hatch and used the Skunk2 intake manifold and an LS air tube cut to connect to the stock air box.

i know what a carb sticker is....

i meant..... do you use the intake for the ED/EF civic, or do you use an intake for a GSR to ref.

I have an LS motor in my rex. The intake I'm using is a 3" cold air made by Cosmo for a civic/crx and I have a carb e.o. sticker from AEM for a civic/crx intake on the underside of the hood. Has passed everytime I've smogged it. And for some reason the state still makes me go to a Test-Only smog station???

Does it fit with the stock battery location with the factory intake manifold?

i understand about which one will fit and whatnot....

ive fabbed up custom intakes on my supercharger setups.

but what i am asking is, which intake will be smog ref'd the legal way? the intake for the car or the intake for the swap?

i.e.
88-91 CRX si intake?
or
94-96 integra GSR intake?

Zero;

As far as I'm conserned, you will not find a "cold air" that will pass the ref!!

As an example, as I said in my prior post, I used the stock air filter box and an LS air tube to get through the Ref process.

After that I bought an AEM cold-air intake that is specific for a stock 89 SI. It has the carb sticker (metal plate) on it, but if somebody ran that number (which a Ref would do) it states that it's for a D motor. (on a side note, I had to get a "stepped" coupler due to the tube size not matching the throttle body)

I've since had to go through the normal smog check and the station didn't say anything about the intake. I'm sure that they noticed the carb sticker and didn't worry about it.

If you bought an intake that was correct to the GSR motor, it would be curved for the lower placement of the throttle body. It may not fit within the engine compartment of the EF! The curves will NOT be correct to be used with the Skunk2 manifold.

Everything needs to be motor specific. I bar'd my B18C CRX with a old school
RS Akimoto intake for a 95 GSR. I had to relocate my battery

Alright, my reply was in regards to the OP question. No where in his post does he ask about what will pass if he takes his car to a ref.

Either way, both ways are covered in this thread.

Wes..... if i can find a carb sticker for a JRSC, i'll smog with both of them on.

i'd have to temporarily run all the FMU garbage though.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all of your help and support. I am planning on taking the car to the referee station as soon as it is done. This motor swap has been a project that I have been putting off for sometime now, because of other commitments. I am planning on doing it right, well…. hopefully. Complete OBD-1 conversion and USDM P72ecu.

I will be sure to post pictures and let you know how the Referee station goes.

Anyways I have decided to relocate my battery to the trunk and go ahead with an AEM (or similar) short-ram intake with the appropriate CARB EO # for the B18C1. I will be running the OEM intake manifold for now with the short ram air intake.

…..now to do some homework to find out if it is worth going with the Optima Red Top Battery in the trunk…..
