-The Toyo T1R's has been a good all around tire. Holds the turns and hooks up when I launch. (what I'm currently using)
And here's a list of tires I've driven on....
-Yokohama ES100
-Dunlop Sport W10
-Dunlop FM901
-General Exclaim UHP
-Kumho 712
-Kumho 711
-Nitto 555
-Nitto 450
-BGF G-Force
As well as a couple others that must have not left an impression on me.
If you want something thats going to hook up when you launch, then the nitto 555 is perfect once you heat them up. All of the tires I listed above has its pros and cons, so depending on how you have your suspension set up, tire pressure, wheel size, vehicle height, and driving style will all play a factor in how your car hooks up.

ES100's are good street tires. I don't think they are that great for track use though. I am probably going to be picking up a set of these next week:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...ace=3
I have heard good things about these. I should know more in a week or so.

i just bought a 95 gsr 4 door, and the old man happened to have Dunlop SP Sport FM901's lol. My lucky day i guess. Excellent tires. they are the equivalent to an azenis any other sport tire (i.e. 200 treadwear and sticky, semi-noisy, large traction blocks of tread, stiff sidewall, fun in the dry and grippy in the in wet as well as long as its not standing water). They stick, let me tell you. check out the 350 some odd reviews on tirerack.
if your looking for something sporty and grippy, look at the ultra high performances lines of kumho, michellin (usually more spendy than all the others), pirelli (see michellin + more cash), toyo (ehh), falken azenis, etc etc. dont know if that helps but...

There are lots of good tires out there, and no one tire is the best for everyone. Some people need to use their tires on snow in winter, others don't. Some people need to use their tires in rain, others rarely do. Some people use their tires only on the racetrack, dragstrip, or autocross course, and others use them only for street driving, and still others for both. Some people care only about performance, while others also care about value (purchase price and/or treadlife) and are willing to trade off some performance for better value. So it all depends on what YOU care about for YOUR car.
Some brief recommendations:
- If you care only about performance (traction and handling on dry roads), get the Falken Azenis RT-615.
- If you care about performance (dry roads) as well as wet roads and/or value (purchase price and treadlife), get the Kumho Ecsta SPT. (The Yokohama ES100 is also good, but the SPT is equal or better in every way.)
- If you need to drive your car in snow in the winter and use the same tires the rest of the year, get an all-season tire like the Kumho Ecsta ASX.
Some of the tires also mentioned above, like the awful Falken Ziex ZE-512 all-seasons and the crappy old Dunlop FM901, are absolutely terrible by comparison with the ones recommended here.
As for size, stick with:
on 14" wheels, 185/65-14 or 195/60-14
on 15" wheels, 195/55-15 or 205/50-15
on 16" wheels, 205/45-16 or 215/45-16
on 17" wheels, 205/40-17

its all relative. put the 512 against a direzza 101, and you'll take the 512, for example. direzza = super soft sidewall crap, but very very cheap. 512, cheap, but stiff sidewall which some people prefer (friend bought cheapie 512's and replaced them with the direzzas and wanted to go back, lol).
spts are definitely nicer than both mentioned above from what ive heard from others.
as for the fm901's i have currently, it was downpooring in eugene, OR last night, and i was just putting them through their paces which semi-heavy braking in traffic and tight off ramps, they gripped very well. ive experienced both types of azenis, all kinds of race tires in both wet and dry, so im not very biased to any tire, im more concerned with money than peak peak performance, so any grippy tire with a firm footing is fine by me.

Of course it is. But if one tire is better than another in every way, and cheaper too, then it's a no-brainer.

Nope - it's exactly the reverse, unless you're talking about winter conditions. The Falken Ziex ZE-512 all-season tire, like most all-season tires, performs relatively poorly in moderate to warm temperatures, compared to any good summer tire, including the Dunlop Direzza DZ101 (as well as the SPT, ES100, etc). Absolutely no comparison. The only advantage of the ZE-512 is that it's an all-season and can do better in snow - but it's still not as good as the Kumho ASX all-season.
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Gedupsound »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">as for the fm901's i have currently, it was downpooring in eugene, OR last night, and i was just putting them through their paces which semi-heavy braking in traffic and tight off ramps, they gripped very well. ive experienced both types of azenis, all kinds of race tires in both wet and dry, so im not very biased to any tire, im more concerned with money than peak peak performance, so any grippy tire with a firm footing is fine by me.</TD></TR></TABLE>
But again, if one tire is better than another in every way, and cheaper too, then it's a no-brainer. And the Kumho SPT is much better than the FM901 in every possible way. So is the DZ101; in fact, that's why Dunlop introduced the DZ101 - the FM901, which came out in the 1990s, just couldn't compete performance-wise with similar-priced tires that have hit the market since then, like the ES100. The problem isn't that the FM901 is bad, exactly; it's that you can get much better tires for around the same money. That's what makes them "crappy" by comparison.

I don't recommend the BFG KDW2. They're not bad tires, they're just too damn expensive. You can get roughly the same performance from the Kumho SPT for around half the price of the KDW2. Or, for the same money, you can get a top-of-the-line tire like the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 (in 16" and 17" sizes, anyway) which is a much, MUCH better tire in every way.

Falken Ziex 512s
P205/55/R15
I was making 275whp on them, but they held strong. They did ocassionally break loose up top in first if i hit boost, but for the most part, they were/are a very good street tire.

Well if I get them it will only be 2 and they will be for the strip only, and probably run either ES100's or the SPT on the street.

if you're getting tires for the strip at least get the bfg drag radials. those will hook up way better than kdw's.
