Default Car alarm brand recommendation

I am looking to get an alarm for my Civic hatch 92. I want to protect my investment.
Can someone tell me a good alarm.
Does Carbine or Viper better brand?
does having alarm prevent thieves from stealing?
Thanks.

go to your local alarm installer and ask them what they recommend for your needs. plus they usually have a lifetime warranty on the alarm so if anything goes wrong you know where to fix it.

as far as brand viper and compustar are among the top. i own a perstige 2-way alarm. the range is very good, still picked up signals from the movies theatre. but once a while the alarm will go off. this is probably the best bang for the buck on alarm.

alarm will only warn you about a thief, but you must have triggers to set off the alarm such as door triggers, hood triggers. most alarm will usually come with a relay to kill the starter when armed. having an alarm doesnt mean your car wont get stolen, you gotta do everthing you can to prevent it from getting stolen. i recommend kill switches, foot clubs... even remove your ecu. your efforts will increase your car's chance of getting stolen.

I have a Python 700 with perimeter sensor... if anyone walking within 2 feet of my car, it chirps at them. If they stick their yhand in the window, even if it was rolled down and the alarm was on... it woulgd go off. plus the 2 way remote chips at you when you're alarm is going off. $300 MSRP and perimeter is like 40 bucks

Look for a name brand system, Any dei units, compustar, and audiovox. What is your budget for a alarm system. This will help out alot. Alarms can get pertty costly now adays to do the job right.

compustar only lags if you use the sst units. And most alarms with sst will lag for about a sec or so.

Most of the Alarms out there are pretty good as long as you get the extra security features like backup battery, hood pin switch, piezo siren. I have personally a Viper 791 without the remote start. They do sell a viper 771 which is without the lcd. Most all alarms come with a standard 1 year warranty. But most big retailers like Best Buy, Circuit City give you lifetme warranty on the labor. The alarm you saw @ Best But is ok but very basic, if you decide to get the alarm make sure you get a couple of the security features I mentioned.

Personally, my car has a Viper alarm. It came with the car, so I don't know the model. I have had no problems out of it, but it is pretty sensitive. It goes off if all the time. But when it comes down to it, would you rather have to reset your alarm in the middle of the night or walk to work in the morning?

Thats funny, because Honda/Acura vehicles now come equipped with OnStar.

i'd recommend going with a d.e.i product... python, viper. most alarms come with starter kill. Starter kill is good enough to keep thieves from taking ur car as long as ur installer knows how to prep an alarm and hide ****. i'd recommend going to circuit city and asking for the best installer. if u came to me you'd be cool but i'm in orlando. proximity sensor is cool.. i had it but after a while it gets very annoying. everytime someone walked by my car it was chirping. sux when ur parked at a supermarket and stuff and u come outside to see ur car going crazy. lol

With 18 replies I actually looked up to make sure I was in the right forum.

You do know that there's an aduio/video/security forum, right? You get fast answers there too. This question might be better off there...?

You're right. on you. You stated that OnStar is for GM, not Honda. So.....being that the MDX and RL, Odyssey and RDX to name a few are all available with OnStar, you're comment would be ignorant at best.

Back to the topic at hand....I have an Autopage setup, and its great. Worked so far
