Default anyone hear the new JL w7's???

i am absolutely in love with the new w7's by JL. i saw it at the local audio shop and it was love at first sight. then i heard it in the owner's car, and i knew i had to have one.. the only problem is that it costs 950 dollars for the 13 inch model (it's actually 13.5 inches), and 750 for the 10 inch model. JL claims that the 13 inch w7's hit as hard as 6 15 inch w3's. it was hard to believe at first, but i was a believer once i heard it. the only catch is that u have to have 5000 watts pushing it.. this guy who had it in his car is using two 2000 watt amps, one for each voice coil. i am totally amazed by these woofers.. one 13 inch equals 6 15's??? crzy, but i'm a believer!!!

Yea my friend had 4 JL W7's in his Chevy Xtreme and dam they were loud. They were all half powered and let me tell you that in a small truck like that they really hurt your ears and you get a loss of breath. So to sum it all up they are just SICK!

Uhhh huhhh...JL "claiming" one 13" is equal to 6 15"s...JL wouldn't claim that, they know better...sounds more to me like you just got sold....use some common sense, and read through the sales man's bullshit. Are you really telling me that all things being equal, you would rather have 1 13.5" sub than 6 15" subs....

Take a simple look at the numbers:

13W7
xmax = 1.25 in
Sd = 107.35 in^2
Power 1000W

15W3
xmax = 0.675 in
Sd = 127.5 in^2
Power: 400W

So, one 13W7 can displace 134.2 in^3 of air, and one 15W3 can displace 86.1 in^3 of air at full excursion....that would mean that 6 15W3's would be about 516.4 in^3....hmmm that's 3.8 times more than your one W7.

Power handeling of 5000W!!! That's funny...take a look at JL's power recommendations, and you will find that the maximum power handeling for them is in the 2kW range, not 5kW.

Don't believe me...here's the link:
http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/RP_Chart.html

It's an outstanding woofer and all, but for $950 I find it to be a waste. Get two IDMAX's and walk all over a single W7.

I really hate it when salesmen lie through their teeth just to try to make a sale.

the claim wasnt from a salesman, it was a printout from JL. i wouldnt believe the saleman's words.. he's just here to sell me stuff. but it came from JL and i heard it myself. maybe it's not the w7's, maybe it was some other model, competition or something. i didnt buy it yet, but i will soon..

Where did you hear this in nor cal? I'm very skeptical about JL making such a bold, and unsound statement....just wondering, because it sounds like BS to me, and I don't like BS-ing sales men.

I would love to see the literature...if you get a chance scan and post it. Personally, I wouldn't think that JL would say something that stupid.

The W7 is the best thing that they make right now, so there is not other woofer by JL, or one on the market for that matter, that will replace 6 15" W3's...

Don't get me wrong, the W7 is a great woofer, but for the money I think you are gettin taken to the cleaners, unless of course you just want to say "I have a W7."
