Ive had my SI for a little over 3 months i have 7,200 miles and i learned to drive stick on it but the point is i don't rev match very often. Ive never went from 5th to 3rd to race or nothing just normal 6th to 5th or 4th to 2cd coming up on a turn but i don't rev match i just come off the clutch slow so it dosent jerk alot. I wonder if over time this will ruin the motor mounts should i learn to rev match asap i now i have the rpm's down as far as where i need to be in each gear when i do DS its just a habit at this point not to rev match anyone ?

 

What's rev-matching. I didn't quite catch that??

 

Downshifting and applying the accelerator to match previous RPMs to avoid lurching (sudden engine braking). 6th to 4th would be a good example.

 

But will it ruin motor mounts if i 1 dosent rev match ?

If you are jerking when shifting, your timing is off. The only thing you should feel is the pull from the gas.

That's all you are creating Will. Unless you are constantly hitting the rev limiter.

 

I don't jerk when shifting at this point it was just the rev matching i was concerned with thanks alot

I would look at doing anything to the mounts unless you add a hell of alot of torque. Otherwise, stock will be okay.

 

Does revmatching waste gas--and lower gas mileage? I haven't tried revmatching from 6th to 4th yet, but I alwasy revmatch pretty much one gear at a time... like 6 to 5, 5-4, 4-3, etc. -_-

i never tend to rev match when skipping two gears, i would downshift appropriately

i find it soooo easy to rev match on the Si, rather than my prelude

 

I doubt it i dont DS to engine break if i am doing 45 comin up on a exit i just throw it in neutral then apply the break but if you DS from 5th to 3rd to race on an open road i would hope then yea it's def killing mpg because that would put you at around 5800rpm.

I always rev match. Always have since I learned how to drive manual and always will no matter what manual transmission car I drive.

Never heard of motor mounts blowing from not RM....

Nope, I'm sure it hasn't happened in a stock car that wasn't defective. Honestly, it's always recommended to downshift and revmatch, but it's always recommended to shift at ~2000 RPM on my girlfriend's Jeep too...

when I punch the throttle to revmatch, my revs go up like almost PERFECTLY for one downshift in gear... What do you guys do to revmatch from like 5th to 3rd? Hold the rev l0nger? I think it'd be hard to rev it that high Release the clutch a tiny bit while revving? Lol

 

Personally I use the clutch more when I jump down more than one gear. Usually if I jump more than one gear down, however, I'm ramping up speed more than trying to slow down

 

Is this the same technique of "heel and toe"?

I thought you would only use this for racing and turning into corners smoothly.

 

Its to prevent the engine from surging when you DS if i go from 5th to 3rd if someone wants it then i would have to clutch in then rev it to the right rpm where the next gear would be in this case 3rd. If i do that it would be smooth instead of the car feeling like i just hit a deer i was curious if this would ruin the motor mounts by not rev matching at any speed it dosent have to be if i am racing.

 

theres no way it should hurt your motor mounts. if you just slowly let off of the clutch then it should hurt your clutch. It should wear down your clutch quicker. id say learn to rev match. its better for your car and for your clutch.

it wouldnt hurt to learn to rev match...plus it makes you look like a good driver.

why would you wanna heel toe?
drifters use that technique.
