Default best tires for bay area weather?

i'm gonna need some tires for my new volks coming in and am wondering what your opinions are out there? FYI i live in the bay area, so for those of you who do not live here, its quite rainy in the winter so i'm going to need a tire that can hold up to that (i.e. provide reasonably good traction when its pouring). i'd also like decent treadlife (like maybe a 6 on a scale of 1-10). i don't autocross or drag my car much at all, so a tire for those purposes isn't really what i'm looking for. am i asking for the impossible? haha. let me know what you guys think might work out for me and if you have no clue, then maybe just let me know what tires you are running and how they work for you. thanks a lot.

well i have live in the bay right now, but do a lot of driving statewide...best tires for bay area conditions though are either the kuhmo ecstas 712 or the bridgestone potenza re-730...you might get more life out of the kuhmos though. i'd recommend either one...hope this helped!!!

Dont have any experience with the 730s or 712s but i heard they are good tires. Currently I'm running on s03's and they are great. Dry grip is very close to the stock re10, might even be a lil better. I feel more in control when rounding a corner, then again it could just be me heh. As for wet grip, they are ALOT better tan the stockers! Had them throughout the winter and i can say i did not lose traction at all during everyday driving
