Default where to get good priced amps?? EGAY?

I need 600 watts RMS @2ohms and 1200 watts max... looking for a mono amp. I checked out ebay but some of them seem pretty shady as always and i usually deal with crutchfield but my wallet hurts... any ideas?

There's a few to check out. Also try buying used online for decent deals.

The amps that are rated at more than 12V are trying to make their numbers sound better most likely.

12V is what the amp sees when the car is off, ~14V is what it will see when it is on (in a normally operating vehicle)

Some good brands... there are a lot, I'm sure you've heard of the name brands. Since you are looking for a mono amp, it's not as important.

Alpine, Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, etc... since you said "good priced" I'm guessing you are on a budget. The Directed, Hifonics, and Soundstream amps have gotten decent reviews, but I am no expert as I have never owned those brands.

Yea I thought it was kinda weird that some of the alpines had ratings at 13.? and even 14.4...

Yea i guess i heard of the name brands because they did something good right?? I also heard on the cheaper amps they don't make the wattage they say they do, so since i need 600RMS can't i just get one that claims like 900?? because that would still be cheaper then some of the name brand ones.
thanks again for the advice

i like to run my amps at 17v sometimes, but for everyday stereo use your going to be around 13-14,

i would suggest looking into what there power rating really is, peak power? or continous?

it'd probably be best to go with a brand like kicker, jl, jbl, rockford, something like that, there are more than that, but not all are as good as others, and yes there are brands that are good that i didnt list, those were just off the top of my head.

Is your alternator rated for 17v?

I dont know how many people actually listen to the radio with the car off. For me the 12 and 14.4 rating tell me if the amp has a regulated or unregulated power supply.

Personally I would only go with a regulated supply.

No if you see a small difference between the rated outputs then this is a regulated power supply. Maybe a difference of 1-3% approx.

If you see the rating go up for 14.4v then this is an "unregulated" supply this term is used loosly. Even an unregulated supply is regulated.

</TD></TR></TABLE>OK so you have 2 DVC 2 ohm 12" 400W RMS subs, then you will be looking for an amp that makes at least 800W RMS into a 2 ohm load.

There are more then a few of them out there, I would stick with a mono block sub amp as opposed to a bridged 2ch amp, [as most 2ch amps are not stable below 4 ohms when bridged] IMO a good amp would be a JL Audio 1000/1, but maybe out of your budget, [possibly a used one], it is a 1000W RMS mono block sub amp, an example of an amp with a regulated power supply, 1x1000W RMS into 1.5-4 ohms @ 11V-14.5V... http://mobile.jlaudio.com/prod...d=221

There are some at eBay... http://search.ebay.com/JL-Audi...earch but be careful when buying from eBay. 94

I was told it can handle 600RMS... does that mean 300 each?? here is exactly what i got...

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-g...g=510

Is it better to get an amp that could blow the subs, or get one that can't overpower it?

That amp seems awesome but I don't have the cash flow for that... I am looking for around 300, a little more is ok if it is def. worth it. I do def. want a mono though.

But I guess I am still unclear of what i need watt wise, so If anyone wants to help me out by clicking the link i'd appreciate it!

Thanks again guys

OIC, you have the cabinet, box design will determine power handling.
this is the sub... http://www.kicker.com/06/tech-...l.pdf
this is the box w/ the subs... http://www.kicker.com/06/tech-...l.pdf check the specs.
It is 600W total, [300W each].

You are better off a little overpowered then under-powered. putting 500W RMS to the subs will not hurt them at all, the problem is that you are more likely to overdrive a 500W amp, [on subs that can handle 600W] into clipping, [distortion] and that's what hurts the speaker, excessive heat buildup at the subs VCs will burn them, on the other hand, driving 600W subs with 700W will also eventually blow the subs, but you are less likely to overdrive the amp into clipping, and output of amp can be controlled with the amps gain control, and for short bursts of power, [clean power] it will not hurt the speakers.
I would be looking for something that makes1x650W- 1x700W RMS into 2 ohms.

Maybe a Kicker SX650.1, 1x650W RMS into 2 ohms... http://www.kicker.com/06/tech-...L.PDF 94

what about an alpine M650? it only makes 600w RMS at 2ohm though... oh the box is pre-wired for 2 ohms, i forget if i mentioned that or not.
