Comparing: Falken Z-512 vs. Kumho SPT
(First Post)
I recently purchased an '07 V6 Accord. I am impatiently waiting for the OEM Michelin Pilot MXM4s to wear enough so I can replace them without feeling like I "wasted" the tires (although they are pretty much a waste anyway
). I am leaning towards the Kumho SPTs (I have Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 for winter), but my Honda mechanic (who does AutoX) recommended the new Falken Z-512

Sorry, I hit the enter button by mistake! (I'm really not a noob at this.)
I had meant to ask for opinions comparing the Falken FK-452 with the Kumbo SPT. My mechanic did NOT recomment the 512 but the FK-452! As I said I am leaning toward the Kumhos, and don't know anything about the 452s (I think they're new). I drive my V6 moderately aggressively, but there's no track time in my future. I would like the new tire to give me enough of an improvement in handling over the OEMs to where I don't need to invest further in aftermarket shocks (would be using the Koni Yellow adjustables since that's all that's available anyway). I'm just looking for more responsive steering and nimbleness, since I'm still getting used to the Accord after trading in my '99 Passat GLS.

The Kumho is also usually slightly less expensive.

as everyone has stated the kumho spt is going to be the better tire...especiall in handling on dry pavement as well as wet pavement compared to the 452 which is garbage
Yeah, it's pretty clear that the Kumho SPT is a great tire. I have looked around quite a bit and haven't found anything to contradict that.
Don't know if you're familiar with this comparison test on TireRack.com: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...tid=4
but the SPT outrides the Yokohama AVS ES100, General Exclaim UHP, and Goodyear Eagle RS-A (OE) in that order. Very interesting results--check it out.
FYI: on another comparison on TireRack, my stock Micheline Pilot HX MXM4s beat out the Bridgestone Turanza LS-V, Continental ContiTouringContact CH95, and Goodyear Eagle RS-A (OE) in that order. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...id=63
At least I get to ride the stock Michelins down until I buy the SPTs.
Btw, I put on new Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2s winters yesterday and they ride and drive a lot better than I had expected. I may never be able to tell how well they do in snow though if this winter never shows up. It's been in the 50s all week and it's going to hit 60 tomorrow. No wonder the damn ice cap is melting.
