Default I want to get my car on a track....

I'm not exactly sure if this is possible without a license or not. I am building a car right now, and this summer I want to get it on a track, such as LimeRock, CT. I dont really care so much as to racing it now, I just wanna get it on the track and go. Its been a dream to do this, but like I said, I dont know if a license is required. So, I am hoping I will get some advice on what I should do so I can make this happen.

What you're looking for is referred to as HPDE (High Performance Driver Education) or track days.

The first link in the FAQ thread at the top of the forum reads:

Want to drive on a racetrack - read up here - https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=972109

That's where you want to start looking.

Out of curosity I looked at a few of the major clubs that host events at LRP. (www.scda1.com, performance drivers association / NASA North East, and the New England Region SCCA). On their website, they all state that it is necessary to have a valid drivers license.

Based on your profile, it's not age related. You may want to contact some of these organizations, explain your situtation and see if they might consider making an exception.

Yeah, I been reading up on the NASA, and it looks that I can do it all, but I have to pay $40 for a membership and $150 per day to drive on the track if I am reading it correctly. It shouldnt be too much of a problem. The only part I dont like is that most of the events are in PA. There is only 2 scheduled for Limerock this year. Which sucks! SCCA seems to have too many classifications to deal with and I'm wondering if I have to take the Skip Barber thing at $3,000 which I dont want to do.

I definitely like the fact that I get an instructor assigned to me for a while to make sure I am doing everything right with NASA.

From what you all know about this, give me your feedback on this. It says that all factory cars do not need any addition safety equiptment. I have a B18C swap in my hatch, so I guess I should have to get some harnesses and more reinforcement? I am definitely upgrading the brakes, so that part should be covered. What is mandatory for suspension? And from all these different clubs out there, which do you all think is the best? Or a better way to put this, which club would YOU choose?

Thanks for the replies! I dont know too too much about this stuff yet. I am just now starting to look into it now that I got my car going. I been doing most of my studying on how to do my swap, and all the do's and don'ts and what not.... In the mean time, I am going to continue looking for info online about getting my car on a track and signed up to a club.

LOL!!! I thought you meant not having a drivers license in your original post. Too funny - my bad!

(Lime Rock is my home track - I'm from CT.) The 2007 schedule is not up yet, but this is one club I instruct with and hold in very high regard: [url]www.SCDA1.com[/com]. Also keep an eye on http://www.ner.org. Their performance driving experience events (same as HPDEs) are not yet finalized. Plan on the two NASA events as well.

For LRP events (that darn track keeps raising their rental rates!), plan closer to $250 for a day. NHIS isn't too far from you, and of course there's Watkins Glen.

For SCCA or NASA, don't get too caught up in the classifications now. Get out on the track for a few HPDEs and the other parts will make much more sense and be a lot easier than it may look.

Nothing is mandatory for suspension. Use your money for more events at least for now! And $3K buys you a lot of HPDEs where you get some very good instruction.

Watkins Glen looks like a sweet track! I would drive out to there to play around for a day. Dont know about the PA one though. I will look into the NHIS, never heard of it. But by the letters I would assume its New Hampshire International Speedway. I will see where that is, but I agree, NH isnt too far.

I guess that whole thought about Skip Barber I can drop then? I will also look into SCDA1 as well as the other site too. As far as I have read, HPDE seems to be it. Im just confused with everything as a whole. Not sure what needs to be done right now to get on the track, and what I can actually put off and not worry about until I am ready to actually race. Like the classifications and what not, like you said. Right now, I am going to finish up with my car and putting it together for now, then getting the track lined up.

Now, I just need to catch up on all these links that have been thrown at me and read some stuff.

Thanks to all who have replied. I just dont have too much time on my hands, and I am trying to get to the info thats important. Full time student at college and 30-40 hours of work eats my time up.

You're correct with the NHIS = New Hampshire International Speedway.

I personally like more traditional road courses such as Lime Rock and Watkins Glen, but that's just me.

The Skippy schools are good if you have the money for it. For me when getting into the sport, I was on a limited budget. If you have a car you're willing to use on the track, that amount of money can buy a person many HPDE entrance fees.

When you have time, read through the various posts here and on other forums. It will become a lot less confusing esp. if you just take it one step at a time and don't try to figure it all out at once.
