Default Manual to Auto Conversion (I searched)

I know this is like sacreligious. Has anyone ever done this on an EF sedan? If so, what parts does it take. I did a search on this and found nothing for a manual to auto. Even Googled it and only found auto to manual. THanks

Compared to most on HT, I am an old man. I am sick of fighting the stick. The metro area I live in is growing and the answer to every fender bender at an intersection is to put up a traffic light. I am getting road raged even in an auto, so if I end up with another stick, I better be ready to change it.

I did a auto to manual conversion and the things I had to contend with were:
-moving motor mounts
-switching ECUs
-switching shifters
-switching pedal assymbleys

I know you are doing the oppisite of what I did but you just have to do it in reverse. You will need two new motor mounts for the front and the rear and the rear one is also in a slightly different location -- which is about an inch to the left of your current mount. Hopefully you already have the threads there on the frame so you just have to put the new mount in. Also switching the pedal assymbley will be annoying but at least you don't have to drill any new holes in the firewall like I did. The most tedious thing it seems like would be getting the automatic shifter into place and securing it becuse you will have to cut a hole in the metal under the center console. Your drive axles should not need to be changed. Your best bet is to read the "auto-to-manual conversion" tutorials just keeping in mind your going to be doing the reverse. And if you need it I have a good auto trans. and pm5 ECU for an auto for sale.

I though of that, but most of them on HT are well kept while most of them are manual. The nicer ones not on HT are at dealers where they think they have winning lottery tickets hidden in them or something. They are pricey. Unless either one of you guys know of a decent auto for sale?

The conversion is more money then it's worth. Try looking at other hondas, like accords. You will find them in better shape, alot of them automatic too. Good luck tho, I know how you feel about the EF chassis, but sometimes you have to give a little. The accord would be the better platform. Look into a 90-93, you can easily slap an H22 in there, trust me .

well i believe the hardest part of doing manual to auto swap is the pedal assembly which you wont have to do unless you want to get rid of the third pedal which will be useless. i have never done this my self but it shouldnt be too hard. here is a good link for a write up, its the opposite of what you want to do but it will give you a basic idea of what has to be done http://www.4gcivic.net/wp/?page_id=6

keep in mind honda auto trannies seem to be rather weak and im not sure how easy/pricey would be to find one in decent condition.
good luck

i know what it is like having to fight with a 5speed while driving to work = pain in the ***. What i would recommend is to look for a crashed DX and take the harness for the shifter and mate it with the car you already have also dont forget for run lines for your auto tranny lock out control solinoid.
