Default ECU TUNING QUESTION

WHats up, i just got my 99 gsr rebuilt after a hydrolock. The mechanics supposedly put in new gsr block, 2 layer headgasket, milled the head .020 and put in type r cams... Also added was blox IM, 65mm TB, and 3"SRI. I got full exhaust.

Now my question is this place is tellin me i dont have to tune it and this dosent make sense to me... I figure ii needed a p28 and s100 to accomidate for the single stage IM and raise vtec??????

The mod that requires tuning here is the TB & IM combo. That'll probably mess with your air fuel big time. Anyway, get those mods working together and im sure you'll get even more power.

As ^ said, the TB and IM changes things a bit but I wouldnt say the tuning is necessary. Now, that doesnt mean that a chip reprogram isnt a good idea. Your ecu isnt taking full advantage of your mods, so yeah a uberdata or crome upgrade would be nice. But again, it's not necessary. Your car just wont full use the upgrade their their utmost potential.

As for the block being new, I doubt that. No shop I know would use a brand spanking new, fresh from the Honda dealer block. Did the specify it the block was going to be new as in fully rebuilt with new gaskets/bearings/rings?

And if you want to make sure they actually installed ITR cams shafts, there is a way to tell by looking at the grooves on the cams. Do a quick search and you find a how to with pictures. Then just pull off your valve cover and compare your cams with the pics.
