will any model optima yellow top fit in the normal battery compartment of a 99 accord 4cyl?

i tried the search on optima's site, and it didn't show any results.

anyone that sells those batteries will have a chart that calls out the applications of battery for each car.

I guess "best" is this case is nothing more than an opinion.

Why am I going to spend ~$150 on a battery that will barely last longer than 3 years, when I can spend $80 on a battery that will last 6 years? And don't blame it on the stereo system... I've run high-powered systems in my car for years, and I've never needed an Optima battery.

Optima batteries are completed overrated.

The reason I started using optima is because my boss had the SAME battery in his plow truck for 8 years. They are not 3 yr. batteries if they are kept charged and not set on concrete. When my alternator went out I drove for 3 hours on the battery alone.

Optimas last much longer than 3yrs and this is under strain and heavy usage.
They are always worth it.

If you guys believe that, go for it. I've personally seen over 20 Optima batteries die within 3 years. I've only seen 1 that made it longer than that, and it died after 4 years.

A friend of mine owns a stereo shop, and he constantly has people coming back because the batteries die so quickly.

Yes possible grounding probs with... stereo systems, HELLO!! and charging probs from not using capacitors on high watt systems? just being honest, I use gel batteries in my derby cars and sometimes turn engines over for 2 or 3 minutes. 3 minutes of consecutive desperate cranking! optima is my choice to pull me through hot summer days cold winter nights and vicious demolition derbies.

it depends WHICH optima, cheap optimas will die and some stereo shops sell red tops which aren't meant for stereo.

IMO Odyssey is more of a performance battery. When I think of Optima I think of Stereo Systems.

Only half of the cars mentioned even had aftermarket stereo systems in the car. And how do you know if the cars had caps or not?

All Optima batteries that I've brought up were yellow tops.

Like I said before, if you're fine with Optimas, than it's all gravy. All I'm saying is that they're overrated and that most people who have them would be better off with a regular battery.

Many different manufacturers make yellow tops and red tops and blue tops.
Most people do not replace them that soon which is why they are used. They live up to the name.

Yes there are cheap yellow tops out there.

So you're saying that multiple manufacturers make Optima batteries, and then when you buy one you won't know which manufacturer made it? I find that kind of hard to believe...

Again, I have yet to see an Optima battery live up to all the hype. Maybe you have... Cool beans. I haven't.

Several battery companies make yellow tops.
A yellow top indicates a deep cycle battery, it is a type of battery.

Interstate is notorious for shitty yellow tops, that's not an optima problem, that's an interstate battery problem.

This is a yellow top made by stinger
http://cgi.ebay.com/STINGER-SP...wItem

Car mags test these yellow tops once in a while to see which brand is best to find out who makes the better yellow top.
Some yellow tops are slouches and some are champs.

I guess I need to get technical. Yellow Top is trade marked name owned and made by Optima in Aurora, CO. Optima makes 3 batteries: Blue Top (Deep Cycle Marine), Red Top (Starting), and Yellow Top (Deep Cycle Marine AND Starting). All Optimas are Spiral Cell Gel batteries. Its like 6 smaller cells in one. There are a couple of knock offs - one is called Orbital (has a yellow shell) and Bright Start has a gel battery with a yellow sticker. I can only vouch for the the real deal Optima Yellow Top. My experience has been good with them.

Okay... I was ONLY talking about OPTIMA yellow top batteries... I'm not sure why you were thinking that I was talking about other brands.

I guess the end result of this whole discussion is that we are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Both of you have seen good experiences with Optima batteries. I (and my friends) have seen nothing but bad experiences with them.

it's not something new, panasonic trunk mounted batter more than a decade ago is gel cell.

every battery is 6 cells with 2.1 volt in each unit.

most people think it's new and crazy but if you know anything about battery and stuff you know it's all just marketing and hype.
